Kizzy was a gypsy girl... the slave girl in Roots was called Izzy... I have had kittens named after both,as I love the names.

She sounds sooooo cute... I'd love a dog, but Lord Hunter Gatherer is not ready yet. Our last girls died aged 14, one as we moved house, the other died while he was serving in the Gulf, and he still misses them both so badly.

So I now have 5 cats, lol!

My cousins dog was called Kizzy when when we were younger. The childrens programme Kizzy was about a gypsy girl - I remember as it was on about the same time my cousins got their dog!

Good luck with the puppy. A friends dog had puppies in the summer - chocolate labs - Mum dog died in labour & so all 7 puppies had to be hand reared !

I am allergic to labs though but could help with the pups as they weren't moulting .

They got very boisterous though so good luck :-)

Hi Dianne. My sis says she can't remember it happening, but I know from being with her in places when there's been an owner with a white dog on a lead just like a Westie she'd back off or come the other side of me away from the dog.

And Summer my sis took her rescue dog out for a walk with the 2nd cousin plus Staffie in tow Sunday just gone, as the dogs had never met to test the waters (purely because we'd previously had a Staffie when we had a dog and it took us a good 2 yrs or so for the Staffie to properly become more friendly to humans and the dog as we didn't know how that staffie had been treated by previous owners and was slightly agressive but ended up being as tame as a draft stopper that you put by the doors, but still didn't like other dogs that didn't live in the household and was a very protective dog) but sister says cousin's staffy is a bit shakey and then lies on her back with paws in the air, as to give in, when other dogs approach her but ended up licking my sisters rescue dogs face off which is a very good thing considering haha!!

Will do Glenys.

Thank you all for your good wishes for Kizzy. I'm off to bed now so will probably talk to you all tomorrow.

Night night.

Awww Dianne, there was a little white Westie at the vets today, waiting for it's little "op"!!
Could you please, when you see her, give Kizzy a hug from her Auntie Glenys.
Thanks! :-))

Sarah, if the staffy was scared of other dogs then she wouldn't lie on her back and show her belly. She's showing submission to other dogs, it's actually healthier than if she ran around barking. Does she eventually get up and sniff them?

Dianne Report 14 Jan 2008 23:32

That's a thought Sarah. I think I might have to wear my ordinary slippers for a while and hide the ones with the bunnies on top.

Bless your little sister. I bet it was scary for her.

They are cute little dogs, I like the look of the white ones though. My sister isn't as keen though as I think my friends traumatised her slightly when my sis was a toddler (more so I think as she had learning probs and couldn't get her understand). It was totally innocent of friends dog as he'd never bite anyone, but my sis had winnie the pooh slippers on feet that looked like actual bear/teddy and dog thought they were teddy toys and tried to get them off her feet and play with them. Tried like hell to get the dog indoors while I was holding toddler sis, but needless to say there was a screaming toddler thought she was being attacked and having her feet ripped off and dog thought we were playing. Kids and dogs hey.

My sis's now 18 but her 1st dog is from a rescue centre. Got him last summer few months after our Staffy passed away and think sis said he is a cross between a wippet and one of those dogs like on the movie 'babe the pig' where they are enerjectic and hearded the sheep in the pen. To me though he reminds me of a greyhound (for the bodyframe) but has a long black labrador looking coat and is defo a bouncy dog in character.

On puppies though my dad might be having another Staffordshire Bull Terrier...this time a pup (few months old tho) off a relative on Weds as they had a baby last week and the Staffy puppy is to boistiorous and don't want to risk her being rough with baby but is petrified of other dogs. Apparently if dogs go near her she lies on her back petrified and tries to play dead... and this is a Staffy bull terrier lol.

All this talk about puppies is making me want a dog, unfortunately I'm horribly allergic to them and cats.

He was so excited when we told him. He was jumping up and down. His little girlfriend did a very dramatic swooning act and promptly "passed out" all over my carpet. lol

If anyone is looking for a dog - PLEASE look at those in rescues - dogpages forum is a site dedicated to finding homes for unwanted pets - 8000 a year are put to sleep, so if you do want to home a dog, please give one of those a chance.
