Yes but at least they are not walking on wire cages, four to a tiny cage, and once outside they can forage and roll about.

Free Range are no better. In fact some would argue that it is even less humane to produce eggs this way.

To qualify for free range, all that has to happen is for a single door to be kept open to the outside.

As chickens are naturally territorial, the scene by the door is not a pretty site. Suffice it to say "Survival of the fittest"

No I didn't watch Hughs chicken run, wish I had.

I often wondered where zoos etc get their chicks to feed to their reptiles and birds...of course, its the unwanted male chicks from the industry.

The truth is though, he is not trying to put us off chickens, but to promote better farming methods rather than the high yield high profit processes that they have to go through now.

just said to hubby never thought about it before just hit me.

did you see the hugh fearnley programme the other night I walked past the chickens in tesco this week couldnt face them knowing what they had been through

Channel 4 Caz

He is talking about the entire chicken production processes, and started with sorting females from males, and showed there and then how they cull the males. Just a little chamber where they are deprived of oxygen. He jsut did it there and then in front of the cameras
