Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 10 Jan 2008 17:17

If you need to get rid of the smell on fabrics you need to use a non-biological washing powder - cannot put a brand name on here as recommended by vet but short word begins with A and ends with L. You can then spray fabric etc with surgical spirit - the stuff they use in vets for spillages - that helps to mask the smell for you.

Apparently every other detergent / cleaner smells like a tom cat to another cat. (I think that's a bit odd but it works.)

We had problems when we moved house as our cats started piddling in the dining room. Took me a while to sort it but we got there!!

Good luck with it - have patience!

We once had a cat that started doing this when I got a temporary job and wasn't at home all day. I read a book on cat behaviour and it was a protest!
Once I was back working from home she was fine and never did it again.

Our present cat was being bullied by a neighbour's cat until recently (not seen it about lately so I'm hoping it's gone as it was not nice). Our cat was so upset that she started spraying and we had to buy an expensive anti spray pheromone aerosol thingy. I also took her to the vet who put her on a mild sedative. That worked and she is fine now.

Good luck
Sue

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 10 Jan 2008 16:58

Ann if his urine is as you say, it's most likely cystitis caused by the dried food - that would need vetinery treatment and it's best to get it checked anyway :O))

Having said that tho - my elderly cat who I lost last year suddenly started peeing wherever he felt like - turned out he had gone blind due to another condition, and also had kidney trouble due to his age - so there's no rhyme or reason why they do things lol

Julie - I think the plug in you mean is Feliwell (?sp) I had one for Max ....... dunno if it worked cos i gave him a litter tray which solved things x

McAnne could be right, it might be stress or it could be a urine infection as Krystyna has said.

One of my cats Mynx was always a clean cat. A few years ago we went away for a week, we'd been away the two years previously but only for 5 days and to a nearer place so it was more like 3 full days and 2 half ones. Anyway, the year we went away for a week when we came back she weed on my son's bed and did the other on the floor...not like her at all. I took her to the vet who ruled out a urine infection but said it could have been the fact that we'd been away. He gave us this "thing" (can't remember the name lol) it looked like a plug in air freshener and worked like one too lol. We plugged it in and it lasted about a month and she was fine after that, no problems since.

Krystyna - he's on IAMS and tins of tuna as well - now you come to mention it I do think his urine looks a bit pinkish - shall take him to the vet - don't think he's stressed - too laid back for that believe me. Also I haven't moved any furniture around. Thanks for all your help guys - Daff told me to put a thread up when I met her this morning!

Cats don't like change Ann - have you moved any furniture around in that particular room, as that kind of behaviour can be a sign of stress ??

If not then I would suggest getting him checked over by a vet - he may have cystitis if he has a lot of dry food, or he may have a kidney problem.

I dont think he likes that bed then ann, I would think there is a smell on it that he dosnt like, give the spray you brought some time to work, if not Id phone the vet for some advice.

no - it's a new bed that hasn't been slept in for over five years apart from an occasional night now and then

Jean

Jean Report 10 Jan 2008 16:42

could whoever has been sleeping in the bed have cats, perhaps he is marking out his territory in that particular area.

My Caddy is the love of my life - a rescue cat I've had for about four years now. For the past few months he has started doing something rather strange and unpleasant. He has taken to widdling on my spare bed!! Not nice - I've had to throw the duvet away - however, he's normally such a clean puss. sleeps on my bed with me every night, never does anything on my bed. I bought a clear plastic sheet to cover the bed he's been widdling on and find he is still widdling on the plastic cover. Today I bought a spray from Pets at Home and will await the outcome but anyone have any ideas why he is suddenly doing this please.
