Afternoon Jill!

If my memory serves me correct (which isn't always! lol) Lady of Hay was about William de Braose and his wife Maud.

I've just read the follow up to The Greatest Knight...The Scarlet Lion....and that features William and Maud de Braose too and they weren't very pleasant in that either. William Marshal sheltered the de Braose's in Ireland for a while when they were on the run from King John.

If you enjoy that book you must read the follow up too. I cried my eyes out! lol

I don't think i have read the Scarlet Lion but I have read another of her books that continued the story, The Falcons of Montalard. I also have two more of her books on my bookshelf crying out to be read. Shadows and strongholds and The Champion. Please don't forget to review any books not on our monthly book read on the thread : Books read in past two months.

Meant to say you no doubt saw the other thread where I said I had got The Hungry Tide from Amazon for about £3.50, can't remember the exact amount, in extremely good condition. I am three quarters of the way through Searching for Tilly and enjoying it. Love her books many of which are set in this village.

Oh yes, I forgot about that thread Ann. I will do a review. I have A Place Beyond Courage about William Marshal's father to read yet.

My book case is overflowing and on Sunday I decided I'd thin it out a bit and pass some books on to my friend to read. I managed to get rid of ten! lol. Why is it so difficult to part with them?

It is not only fiction. I have no trouble parting with paper backs but was going to have a boot sale stall and never got around to it. Now have about 50 books in the loft needing a home!
Then last week we sorted the kitchen prior to decorating and i have a large pile of cookery books, many of them hard backs, needing a home, so heavy to carry too. I suppose it will have to be two or three at a time to a charity shop! I offered the cookery books to my daughter (she has read all the paperbacks) but she has three shelves full already. I used to collect the cookery books and some of them are hardly used, just read and put on the shelf (from the days when I had more money than sense -i.e. when I worked!) Oh and there are some photography and gardening books to - could start a shop!

I know our library accepts donations if the books are in good condition. Maybe yours does too

Bought two Elizabeth chadwick books in town this morning plus another book in The Works at 3 for £5. Unfortunately they didn't have The Scarlet Lion. I now have four of her books to read!

Also bought a Susan Sallis in the Charity shop so came home with 4 new books. Need a holiday now so i can read them all.

At last! My copy of The Hungry Tide has arrived at the library. It's been in transit for the last week.

I've finished Searching for Tilly and am about to start on The Hungry Tide probably tomorrow night, there are some advantages to not being able to sleep with this heat and while am still awake I tend to read more than normal.

I sorted a lot of books before we moved in November, and offered them on Freecycle - cookery books, novels, art books, history books, children's books, health books, gardening books etc etc. Each type listed as a lot. They were snapped up, I didn't have to drive anywhere, and I knew they were appreciated. I go through a lot of books, a large bookshop here has a "box full" sale twice a year. You are given an empty box and however much you can cram into it,and close the lid, costs $30 for the lot (approx 15 GBP). Last year there was a drive to help the victims of the Hurricane Katrina in the southern USA. A local family rented a 20' trailer and drove to Louisiana for Christmas 2006, gave out supplies at the shelters. We were able to supply a lot of workbooks, textbooks, etc in the one box from the sale. the trailer was absolutely full, from donations from friends and neighbours.
Oh help I am off on another tangent.
Goodnight all, had a 3 hour break from my papers, another pile to do tonight before bed. the guilt is slipping away.
