Tina that was awful for you, just glad you are ok and home safe, sounds like it could have easily turned much nastier, I'm a country mouse too and hate city trips, they scare me.
Best wishes for the new year to you.

So sorry for you Tina, but I do know what you mean. The last time I took my wife to town for a dinner-dance was last summer. OK at 8.30 pm going into the restaurant but at 11.45 when we left - drunken louts (and loutesses) were everywhere, vomiting all over the pavement, males urinating against shop windows, awful language from both sexes and six police officers standing by their van 100 metres away doing nothing.
Never again, we now patronise our local pub/restaurant, at least the landlord and landlady won't tolerate bad behaviour and refuse to serve under-agers.
After many holidays in Greece, Turkey, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, etc. where you can walk around safely after midnight, I despair for my country.

OMG Tina. What a horrible experience. O can understand why other people don't want to get involved these days. May the rest of your year be more peaceful and happier.

Awww Tina, how awful for you. That's terrible that you got caught up in someone elses problem. Didn't anyone in the crowd help? Or were they all too drunk and busy to notice?

Sorry you had what shoudl have been a wonderful experience marred by this. Lets hope that however you choose to celebrate new year in the future is more fun and peaceful than that.

It was rather horrid..

Jude, as I was moving away a few lads on the wall were getting involved with the imbecile and his girlfriend (who I hasten to add, was also very colourful in her language, armed with a bottle of vodka)

I was so disappointed with missing the fireworks - not quite the same on Youtube, I cried when I got home. Seems so silly now.

After last night I am saddened with what I saw.

My trip to London last night was a total disaster and we had to take Attitude as she messed up her New Year plans...

I am not that naive that I don't know how things really are, but I very rarely witness bad behaviour, drunkeness, lout gangs.... I could add more.
I didn't cope too well with it all, my life is so far removed from the crowds, cultures and the above. I am Officially a Country Mouse.

We got stuck in a blocked off road, the wrong side of the river so we stood next to a wall and weathered the pushing and shoving for a while.
Some of the language and abuse I witness, shocked me to the core and I didn't think I was a total prude!

I coped until a drunken 'lout' pushed me hard. I made the mistake of looking at him... he kept shouting at me "are you dumb?" He shouted it a few times and I said "what's your problem?" He wanted me to get out of the way so his girlfriend could have some space...I had nowhere to go, I was squashed against the wall. He then told his girlfriend to get on the wall..it was about 5 feet high, she said she couldn't get up there. He then got very abusive and headbutted her shouting at her too. He then punched me in the stomach.
At this point I just wanted to go home. We made our way back towards the station, got there just as the fireworks started. We were able to hear them and see a few sparks coming from behind the top of some buildings. We were on the train by 12.05 going back to Stratford where we had parked..... somewhere!!

Never again!
