Fireworks a wate of money...without a doubt, but then local authorities waste money 24/7. In the summer Prince Charles visited our town for 2 yes 2 hours...the flowers and clean up beforehand came to £48,000 now they say they have no money for maintenance of the civic buildings until the new financial year....The world has gone loopy!

totally agree that money could have been used to go towards new prisons that we need, that they deny.
but like i say,we employ the government, its about time they realised that.xx

Hello,

I agree that the performance was well 'over the top' financially, and that there seems to be an unnecessary competition between cities to outdo each other.

Safety bothers me now after a neighbour's rocket sticks embedded themselves upright in a garden . The warning on them was for spectators to be at least 25m away - not possible in today's tightly packed urban gardens. Last night we saw what we think were candle balloons flying over a typical built up area.

Scary.

This complete and obcene waste of public money should be condemned. But I bet you a £ to a pinch of s...... the person who organised the British "light show" will be given a gong of some sorts.

But we have to remember, the person/people who did organise this are well off, they have private medicine, they have big cars, their wives have designer clothes....shall I go on????

Talking about council money being spent in a ridiculous fashion. In a local shopping area not far from me, some bright spark must have thought...`what a good idea to have 6 or more strong garden benches put onto a centre strip between the traffic going both ways. Shoppers will love to sit there between constant traffic and in constant danger of a car veering off the road`. The strip in question is probably 8 feet wide. You really couldn`t make it up. and these councillors get paid...! Also when a bus stops to let passengers on, the traffic behind has to stop and form a queue because they haven`t made any pull-ins. Where do they get these people from?

I agree....................not being a grumpy old woman, just knowing that the money could have been much better spent elsewhere.

We in Sydney get told that the money for the fireworks comes from Corporation and not out of tax payers funds or council rates/tax. I am with the rest of you it could go to better uses.
