Hello Irishgirl,

Swimming is said to be good for asthmatics as it helps control breathing and enhances lung capacity, this is why it is encouraged.

Hi Muffy and Chris

Thank you both

Chris

Natasha takes the same inhalers as you. She uses a Aerochamber (the sames as a spacer but it whistles if you are doing it wrong).

She is good and uses her ventolin as a reliever, so only takes it as needed.

This is the worst I have ever seen her

Possibly someone at work had some new perfume that she's allergic too?

I remember the one time my asthma was so bad I had to be nebulised but that was a long time ago. I was diagnosed at 7 and have only had a couple of big attacks, ironically one was when I was in hospital for my appendix the result of them not letting me keep and control my own medications. It really can be terrifying, hope she's recovering ok.

You may know this already. Was told by GP only 10 days ago - when I was on nebuliser and asked should I purchase one. I did say that when breathing bad I use spacer and take Ventolin 10 times - was told that the nebuliser holds 25 doses so that I could take 25 doses of inhaler safely - I have decided to give myself leeway and stick to 20 as and when required!

I am going to Asthma Clinic run by local surgery later this week and they will review my inhalers as this year I have been on steriods 4 times.

I use Serentide - 2 puffs night and morning, Combivent 2 puffs three times daily and Ventolin - well I eat it. What inhalers are others using?

Has anyone tried Spireva and did it work?

Your daughter will be OK - just washed out but the nebuliser is good.

Kitty, Amanda, Stray and Tina

Thank you all very much.

Stupid thing is when my sister has an attack I am the only one that can calm her down.
When its Natasha or Steve I panic terribly.

Awww Jan,

The weather really has been against Asthmatics these past few days, now she is home and in the warm she will feel so much better and calmer.

If in doubt though, don't hestitate to call for an ambulance. I see so much of this at this time of year and the ambulance service has all the necessary nebulising equipment and it won't necessarily mean a trip to hospital.

Take care.

Poor girl Jan................that must be so frightening.

It happened to my husband once, he was terrified, but his asthma is well under control now, thank goodness.

Hope she feels better in the morning.

Bet you won't get much sleep though, you will be listening out for her ..................all part of being a Mum.

Yeah It did Maddie

She always has managed her asthma, was brought up to believe that asthma had to live with her and not to let it take over her life, she is very sporty and plays footy for the Uni and Southampton Ladies.

Thank you

Daughter went to work today absolutley fine, rang us at 7.30 to say could her dad pick her up cos her asthma was playing up so the boss was sending her home. By the time he got there, about 8 miles from us, she could hardly breathe and not speak at all, so he took straight to hospital just up the road. Bless her she has to be nebulised twice, first time ever, she 19 and be asthmatic all her life, her peak flow was down 175 by the time they got there. She has now gone to bed, but I am worried sick for her.
