Cyber-terrorists are planning a strike against PC's over the New Year period.

This has started already.

The group known as Storm Worm Gang aim to trick people into opening a Happy New Year email of which will contain a link to a new virus.
Experts are warning that the group will send out emails to millions of harvested address's.

The subject heading is likely to be any of the following.
Happy New Year.
Happy Hogmany
Wishing You a Happy New Year
Merry Hogmany Wishes.Plus many others containing either New Year or Hogmany in the subject heading.

The advice given is that if you do not recognise the address of the sender or the senders name
DO NOT OPEN THE EMAIL, JUST DELETE IT.

I have checked this out and it is NOT A HOAX please take note.

Sarah, before everyone panics could you tell us a bit more please. Such as where did you get the info from and where did you check it out? I can find no mention of it in snopes.

Storm action continues.

They were late for Christmas but early for the New Year: We're already seeing New Year greeting card spam runs directing recipients to a malicious web site called uhavepostcard.com.

Right now there are no exploits on the site, but it tries to download a copy of Happy2008.exe to the user. Which is something you don't want.

Update 1: On the 26th we started seeing a new domain: happycards2008.com. The filename has morphed as well, to
happy-2008.exe.

Update 2: Still the 26th and the new domain newyearcards2008.com is being used. Filename right now is
happynewyear2008.exe…

Take care all!

Simple - if you are not sure then do not open! If a stranger walks up to you do you listen to what they say or err on the side of caution?

If you are stupid enough to fall for it then you are stupid enough to have your computer compromised at best - the so-called Storm Worm Gang is well documented
