OK I am fixed now!!!

If anyone else has problems with Ancestry / FTM saving docs to anywhere other than shoe box check what version of windows you are on.

If you are on 98 (like me) you need to go to the help section in Shoebox and download the Fix!

I am now begining to like this as I slowly get it working.

If you think a 1/4 is missing, try this

Say you are searching for Jones & nothing comes up, try Jon* & the using the page forward or back

If that doesn't work, try Jom* or Jop*.

Keep going like this until something comes up.

* works as a wild card & produces a list of all names with this prefix.

Linda I was doing my search wrong - I was doing it the logical way Claire showed further down the thread the illogical way to do it :) Dont use the main bmd search use the one on the right :)

Woo Hoo I exist and I have found the birth record of the adopted person I was looking for. Thank you all so much for your help :) I dont suppose anyone can tell me how I take these out of my shoe box and attach them to FTM or is that pushing my luck?

Maddie I compeletly understand. Try for a distant Aunt or cousin, maybe even someone that you know that is now deceased. If you can't find them PM one us the info & we can try them.

Thanks Minnie and Claire - I may take you up when I get really stuck. I am v private about these things so hope its a user issue and I will find my way round. I have found my marriage so technically I should be able to find my birth and that of those I am looking for.
