Sharon, when I worked with children, we used to have a Pat dog come in to the respite centre regularly.. we had some amazing results from the interaction between some of the children and this lovely dog.

Ann, I don't understand how anyone could be so cruel, but I love the name Cadwalader... we almost called Jethro that, it was shortlisted!!

Pat, they give us so much pleasure, don't they? I love to watch the thugs playing, but it is also so relaxing to have the big girls purring away on our laps watching!!

hubby was totally anti cats wen pussers were goin lol
but peggy went and got one down south of her friend ended up bringin two lol
coz one luked lyk mams old cat
so hubby had no chioce but to have her once she was here lol
but she brill and i always wanted a cat
so im endebted to peggy forever lol

Right now Missy is running across the beroom and annoying Madam..... I know this cos I can hear her hissing and growling!

my lovely little companion is Cadwalader - Caddy for short - he was thrown in a skip with his mum and siblings and he was the only one suitable to be rehomed - the others stayed at the rescue centre and are still there but slightly feral. Caddy absolutely adores my son's bull mastiff Honey and she loves him. When she turns up he goes all gooey and lies on his back to be nuzzled. He has been a life saver to me cos being on my own after so long it;s nice to come home to "someone". My son reckons that as he was thrown in a skip I should have called him Biffa but he was already named when I got him!

Galaxy is just 2 and had a hip replacement last year at just one year old. She had to be in a cage for 12 weeks and daisy never left her side. Our youngest daughter has Autism and learning difficulties. She dosent take much notice of them really but now and then she wil sit down and its like they just know what she wants and will automatically go to her its so nice to see

Stray, is your Stray one of Pussers' Lady's kittens? cos if she is... then Jethro is her brother!!

Our old boy, Tiger, died last year and we really missed having a cat. So this June we went to the RSPCA home at Claverton to see what was there.

. As you can imagine we wanted to bring them all home. Spent ages on 3 separate visits, finally choosing one only to be told we couldn't have him because he came from the town where we live and they won't rehome them where they came from. Back to the cattery, narrowed it down to a little girl and a 3 yo boy who never came out of his bed. I asked which one had the greater need and they said the boy because he had a lovely nature but people passed him by because he didn't come out.

We took him home and have never regretted it, he has been renamed Barnaby, and is a most affectionate, good natured cat, despite, or perhaps because, he had been a stray for 2 years.

He has learnt to purr, when he came he had what can only be described as a wheeze.

I was very tempted by the kittens though.

Sadie, our lab, was blind towards the end, and Bonny always had a problem with her hearing, but eventually went totally deaf. When we moved to Gloucester to live we had an old black cat (he was grown when Sadie was brought home as a 6 week old puppy, but Twt adored her) and of course, Pol. It was when we were here that we realised Sadie was blind, as she had managed so well in our previous home.

The dogs were brilliant.. They would act as eyes and ears for each other. But they stayed quite close to me when they were off the lead. However, when Twt and Pol came out with us, the cats would be side by side, and would gently nudge, chirrup and guide the dogs around the field, so they had so much more independence and went further away from me. Twt, Bonny and Sadie have all gone now, but their ashes are waiting to be put into the perfect spot in our garden, all together. The others will go there when their time comes, too.

Lovely thread Anita... as I am a total animal freak and my pets are my life.

I don't have any cats but have my rabbits who come in the house every evening and get up to no good.
Micky's favourite toy is a small flower pot which he throws in the air and chases. I have only had Maggie for 3 weeks she doesn't know how to play yet - rabbits need alot of stimulation.

Our pets give us so much pleasure don't they? Great to read your stories everyone.

Galaxy is the youngest & she is the one that will wind the cat up and then run behind Daisy, as soon as daisy run Galaxy soon follows the cat just sits there!

Sharon, I used to have a German Shepherd and a lab.. the cats ruled the roost!! When we took the dogs for their walk, we would be followed by at least two cats, each time!!

When Pol had her kittens, many years ago, she chirruped the German Shepherd (Pol and Bonny were inseperable from the moment they met) and Bonny used to go upstairs and babysit while Pol went off by herself, for a little while.. the kittens were just two days old when it started, and of course we watched like hawks... but it was just so sweet!! Bonny has been gone over 4 years now, and Pol cried for weeks and weeks after she died.

my Gizzmo is a old black & white cat at present the normal morning game has started!
he is on top of the Conservatory roof having a wash and winding the dogs up he does this every morning he will come in any time purring around me whilst looking at the dogs. I'm sure he must be thinking hahaha try and get me now!!!

Best thing is both dogs are scared of him 2 labraodrs both wimps

Awww they sound gorgeous Daff :O))

Millie is so big now (takes 2 hands to hold her lol) and her markings have changed as she's grown.

She's a silver and black tabby with fine stripes. Her feet and chest are white but where the white meets the tabby it turns to a lovely creamy coffee colour, and her face is more beige and black.

She is a darling when she's sleepy and a demon when she is awake - she savages me several times each day LOL

She loves to lick - if i put a hand out to stroke her she licks it incessantly (?sp)

And most mornings I awake thinking someone is sandpapering my nose .............. hmmm nope it's just Millie licking it LOL

The other 3 seem to have accepted her very well - Coco the eldest (10yrs) is the least accepting but she still has a little game now and then albeit a bit heavy handed - but that's good for her :O))

Millie's fav toy is a fluffy ball on the end of a 2 foot long braid - the ball has a bell and some feathers and Mille drags this thing proudly round the whole house. She looks so funny with her head held high and the string and ball dragging between her feet and she dashes up and down the stairs and so on lol

Aww bless.. my two are now exploring the area, and are very inquisitive. Hermie (who was Daffodil, then Hermione, but is now Hermes, pronounced Hermie, lol, cos he's a boy not a girl) is a climber and very very inquisitive. He has already climbed one of the trees at the side, and tried to tell me he was stuck... but he wasn't. He did it all on his own, and I was so pleased with him, he went right back up there.

He is the most amazing colour, too. And very pretty.

Jethro... well, he is as black and shiny as a panther, and where Hermie is cute and fluffy, Jethro is sleek, and elegant, like a miniature panther, lol! He is less adventurous, and likes to know where I am at all times.. he is always near me, and will only go outside if I am in the conservatory, and he can see me. He is not a climber, like Hermie, he slinks through the undergrowth, or under the rugs, duvet etc. We have learnt that if there is a lump under anything, it's likely to be him.

The big girls are slowly coming around, and just give a token hiss now and again!!

I have 5 absolutely beautiful felines!!

Just for Daff as she enquired elsewhere - my little Mille is coming on leaps and bounds after her somewhat 'dubious' start in life.

She is off to the vets tonight for her second vaccination - then it's a case of slowly getting her used to wearing a collar so that she can eventually explore her territory :O))
