Does anyone remember 'corking'?

We called it french knitting and mine was a wooden cotton reel with 4 nails in the top.Used to use a hair pin or bodkin. |

there bits of plastic like a long shoelace that you do like french knitting but without the doll.and a bit like macrami |

mine was a knitting dolly.corkings what you put on a ship so it doesn't sink.the french don't need tea cosys but i can think of other things they could do with yards and yards of .........i also made pom poms what about frech skipping useing elastic bands i used to pluck the hairs on your legs wether you liked it or not .has anyone tried scobbies? |

I used to do this as a child too, but I think we used to call it "tatting". Does anyone else remember that name? |

We knew it as corking too Kaz but then grandma was from the Black Country so perhaps that's where it came from, lol. We made pompoms by wrapping wool around the cardboard tops from milk bottles. |

oh I had one and it does bring back fond memories. In the summers my mates and I would climb up into our tree house and spend hours corking. It became an obsession and great contest as at the end of each week we would measure to see who's was the longest. We were all working at making one big gigantic rug by putting all our efforts together. Thing is then we argued about whos house would hold this wonderful creation and in the end it never did get made. lol |

The cotton reels are plastic now Kaz, I tried knocking some nails in one and it didn't work.....yes and I made pom-poms too....my Mum taught me to knit and the rest.....never any good with crochet though..... |

Just googled it, and it is priced at £3.50......Maybe an idea as a stocking present for a 7 or 8 year old.....or are they more sophisticated now..... |
