Jen ~ Report 25 Oct 2007 16:13

I can remember sitting at the foot of my brothers pram at 18 months old and being pushed around by mum.

Speaking of memory, this may surprise some but I can assure you its absolutely true.

When my daughter had her daughter almost 9 years ago, she was told it would be Caesarean as the baby had stopped moving and my daughter was convinced that she had not engaged.

The Caesarean went ahead and my granddaughter was found to have been lying across her mothers tummy with the cord wrapped several times around her.

About two years ago when my granddaughter was between 6/7. She said something to her mum which totally shocked her.

They had not been talking about anything to do with the birth or pregnancy, it just came right out of the blue.

She turned around to her mum and said 'When I was trying to get born mummy, I couldn't get out...........I couldn't find my way out, I kept going around in circles!!!!!!!'

We have never been able to explain it, and all we can put it down to is a remembered memory.

Thanks for all your kindl replies. Psychologist and me are trying to work out why I still have my 'imaginary friend' . Am trying to recall many childhood details - re lonliness etc.

I would love to try 'regression' or hypnosis but wonder whether this could make matters worse.

LW I completely understand where you are coming from here.

You loved the dog and it was the one that will always have a special place in your heart.

You may or may not remember being bitten.......it may or may not have happened, but....

it was not your fault or your decision to have the dog put to sleep.

Just keep remembering those happy times with the dog, that's really all that matters now.

Rambling Report 25 Oct 2007 16:00

Yes,I am sure that a child of that age would remember ,if not the actual event in detail, then the emotion it caused.......

I can remember back further than that, smell is a strong trigger.......

Rosex

PS I am sure that Caz is right also....

Hiya LW, how lovely to see you. We visited Pendle and Clitheroe a couple of weeks ago.

I wonder if early memories , of which we arent entirely sure can profoundly affect our lives as adults, or maybe......it is a past life.

I have a feeling about something, which I feel I cant put on the boards but which affects me.

Love to you,

Chica in the sun ☼ Report 25 Oct 2007 15:57

Yes at 3 and a half a child would have a strong memory of a trauma. I would have thought the child could have been frightened of dogs as a result. I was always terrified of water, and finally went to a hypnotherapist, I remembered in my subconscious that when I was two I had fallen head first into granda´s garden water butt. It helped put water into perspective for me. Oddly enough, my first conscious memory is giggling and being dried on my mam´s knee after a bath in the zinc bath infront of the fire, I also remember the whole outlay of the prefab house and whilst having the whooping cough, my granda pulling up the floorboards and finding flood water a foot deep there. I had my 3rd birthday in new house, but remember lots of things at age two. I have put all these memories down for my children. Hope this helps. Lanc witch tell us your prob. someone here may be able to help.

Yes, now you mention it, I recall that tomato cheese.

I was told in later years that our dog bit me but somehow I now get the feeling that it didn't actually happen. There is no one left whom I can ask. I always loved that dog and still do. The poor dog was put to sleep because of the alleged bite.

I have vague lovely memories of my childhood, but something which happened to me when I was two stands out vividly. I had had a tonsil operation which somehow, had gone wrong, and I remember being given a bowl by a nurse and the blood flowing in. BCXX

I would say yes.
I can remember my brother being born, Mum was rushed into hospital with complications, I can remember most of what happened, I wasn't quite 3yrs old.
We are all different and remember certain things for various reasons.

I'm not sure how a child would react to something.... we are all different.

But... I have a vivid memory from the age of 18 months. I had a 'smell' in my mind and did not know what it was.
When I was pregnant with my first baby, I bought some soft cheeses (like Dairylea)
of different tastes... one was a tomato cheese. AND my memory just opened up to me.
When I told my mother, she was absolutely stunned, and was able to tell me, firstly that me memory was a true one... and what the food was that I had eaten.

SO YES, a child could remember something which happened at the age of three.

I think we all have great memories, and we remember the things which affect us immensely.... be they good or bad.

a three and a half year old child would remember being bitten near the eye and nose by a dog?? Would the child, thereafter, be afraid of dogs ........... or be a life-long dog lover??

Something in my life just doesn't add up. it is too long a story for the boards but your opinions are valued.
