That's an intersting thought Sue. I can't test it out on my kids as I thought banning certain foods during pregnancy was a load of old twaddle! lol. But my kids aren't allergic to anything

Cashew nuts are my absolute favourites, closely followed by chocolate brazils!

Unfortunately, one of my grandaughters is allergic to cashew nuts and has to carry an epipen at all times.
As far as tests have so far found, the allergy is only to cashews and no other nuts. For the past 7 years, since she had an anaphalactic reaction, we haven't had nuts in the house, except for peanut butter which my son cannot live without! He keeps well away from grandaughter when he eats it, and cleans his teeth and uses mouthwash before going near her.
We have been advised to introduce her slowly to things which may be contaminated with nuts or have nut ingredients, which we have been doing for the past 5 months, with no adverse reaction so far.

My daughter is convinced that the rise in children with a nut allergy stems from when expectant Mums were advised not to eat peanuts during pregnancy. If that is true, will we be seeing more children allergic to soft cheese and eggs among other 'banned in pregnancy' foods?

Well Jupee, I was telling my very young hairdresser yesterday how punks in the 1970's used egg whites to make their hair stand on end. I was wondering if this gentleman had a similar experience by ingesting egg whites! pmsl

Peanuts are the worst for allergies, we've been told.

In the past, people were just told to avoid them if they had a reaction. I had a bad reaction to penicillin and mustn't have it again. The first attack is rarely fatal.

But with modern cooking very many things have nut oil and it isn't always obvious.

So some nuts are worse than others then Gillie?

When I used to work at the local mental hopital (Yes, work Jupee!) one of the patients was allergic to fish and her lips and face used to swell up. You had to keep your eyes peeled though if fish was on the menu cos she used to swipe it off the dinner trolley while your back was turned! lol

I used to eat all nuts and absolutely loved them all, I suddenly became allergic to all nuts many years ago, especially peanuts, my mouth and lips swell up and I get bad stomach cramps if I eat them, peanuts are the worst, if hubby eats peanuts or peanut butter he has to clean his teeth before he can kiss me or I get a reaction.

My cousin had a nut allergy when we were little. He nearly died after eating some at Christmas when he was 3.
