Cyprus Report 1 Oct 2007 17:43

Yep-I had a pen friend ,forced onto me by my mum (God bless her) . I had to write to my first cousin Verna who was born as soon as mums brother and family landed in Canada--so obviously we'd never met,I was forced to write to her from the age of about 7!
Probably cos nobody else in the family could be *rsed to keep in touch! We wrote for about 2 years and then more important things in life took over.
Happy ending though-we are now back in touch, both Grannies and both struggling with family tree !
Love you Verna xx

Yes I had two. One was Barbara Berger and she lived in Baltimore, Maryland and the other was Heidi Happe and she lived in Germany. Unfortunately as we grew older we corresponded less and less and eventually not at all.

I've had and have still got two.

One was a girl in France I started writing to when I was 12 and my French teacher organised my class to write to a school in Paris. I visited her twice in the South of France when I was in my 20s. I was invited to her wedding but couldn't go. We don't write as often these days but we are still in touch.

My other penfriend was a lad I started writing to in the USA when we were students and about 18. We are still in touch some 35 years later. We met once when he visited London. He is now a Franciscan monk (and priest) and is in charge of a monastery in Boston Mass. We chat to each other on instant messaging from time to time. He feels like a member of the family even though I am not a Roman Catholic.

Yes, I had 2 of them at one stage. One from the us called Missy Lott, and the other who I met on a German exchange called Elsbeth.

Unfortunately, I am the worlds worst for keeping in contact with peeps...shame.

My son recently wrote a letter through his school to a child in Kenya, and he got a reply from a boy. I cant get him to reply to him tho. How can I get him to understand that it would be nice for him to write to someone from another country?!?!?!

Mind u, think that this boy supports chelsea and my son is an arsenal fan. Think that may just have something to do with it!! lol

Yes, I did - a Swedish girl called Lotta. We wrote from the age of about 12 until our early twenties - even went on holiday together in Cyprus one year (first time we'd met up). It was a bit embarrassing when I introduced her to my Greek rellies, though. Every time I said her name there were funny looks and smiles. Dad later told me that the word "Lotta" in Greek meant the equivalent to a fat pig!
