I wanted this one to go on and on.....I was like Liz and talking to the screen, saying 'go for the death certificate!!'......a couple of years ago I wouldn't know my backside from my elbow about any of this.....

My Scottish ancestors were Ironstone and Coal miners like his, and it was sad for me to see how they worked in cramped conditions underground and to think before the 1840's woman went down the mines too.....I had a good cry over that one....

I did wonder if anyone else would feel like me, that it was a bit insensitive to show the death certificates and means of death of other Daniel Prices, and where they lived, and then to have mentioned again how they had died by taking poison.....perhaps I think too much.....

Joan Report 21 Sep 2007 08:40

Sally, I thought showing the other Daniel Price death cerificates was also insensitive.

Also I was sceptical of the 1901 census results of the son and daughter - GRJ took this as proof that he had the right children.

Did I miss something......when Sarah applied for Poor Relief she had THREE children. I thought she had four.

Enjoyed it though.

I am glad I am not the only one......I was also puzzled Joan by the number of children, also, did you notice they said the older boy had gone to America.....when, and how did they know? that was left in the air.....and the assumption that the mother was also feckless because her children were in some sort of reformatory......I always understood that poor houses took on folk for any reason, even those who were mentally ill, or just could not cope.....it seemed miserable to me for her to be branded like this when they did not know her circumstances.....

It would have been helpful if they had found if the people who adopted Grif's Granny had been related, as was told to them.....or had she been adopted by a couple before Sarah Louisa had applied for poor relief.....

Whatever happened, it was a very sad story for the wife and young children to be split from each other because of the death of the father....

Have to say: He was completely miffed was John Hurt that his family weren't from aristocracy. Blimey days, what a blow that must have been for him!

I too wish I had the spare cash to order four certs to double check. What's wrong with checking things out first? He had genealogists working with him I presume, surely they would have encouraged him to check out the details so that he could order the correct cert, let's face it peeps, it's not rocket science is it!

Natasha's the week before was excellent. I was talking about the different programmes and there have been a few exceptional ones, Bill Oddie's first one was heart wrenching, David Baddiel's was also. Looking forward to the next one whoever it is.
