Nice - but messy things. Even the cobwebs get covered in the sooty mess.

I used to like putting bits of copper wire on a coal fire - and watch the pretty coloured flames.

And that powered Imp stuff - which was supposed to help clean the chimney. That gave off nice flames too.

I have a multi fuel burner in lounge & dining room, i love em, and they really heat the home up:)

We used to have a ?Parkray/Rayburn, anyway one of those coal fires with a glass door on the front. You could fill it right up and it would burn all weekend....lovely....except when you mistimed filling it and it went out, and then you had to go up the back garden at night, in the pitch black, with howling wind and swirling snow to the coal bunker.(lol happy days)

I have an open fire. With central heating and double glazing, you don't get the 'cold spots' that you got when the coal fire was the only form of heating.

Now. I Will reallly make you jealous.

When I was wee, we had a coal fire, used to do toast on it, heat brick's under it, then wrap in an old jumper and put in bed to keep us warm.

We also had toasted cheese under it, it was always a fight to see who got the bit that didn't have the ash on it lol.

used to have a big tin BATH in front of it,every Sunday night whether we needed it or not pmsl
Other night's it was a wash in the big sink.

I dont have a coal fire but sometimes I wish I did, they are so relaxing to look at.

I would give the tin bath a miss though lol

coal is so expesive now too, i remember the coal men you could only see the whites of there eyes and what strong boys they were , bet they could have done with flash bathroom cleaner then instead of powdered jiff, imagine cleaning that bath
