My husbands Uncle died at the age of 15months as a result of whooping cough, a nasty hacking cough. The child gets so weak and dies. My husband grandmother never got over losing her baby in that .Our children and there have had the mmr vaccines,with no after effects. At the end of the day it is the parents decision, Sheila

There are risks with all inoculations but they are far less than the risks of not having the vaccine at all. he NMR vaccine has received the most publicity, but it is actually more risky to have separate jabs, on the grounds that there has not been sufficient research in the longer term of this course of treatment, whereas NMR treatment has been researched endlessly.

Fiona aka Ruby I'm an ancient too - I had a smallpox jab on the sole of my foot because my GP told Mum as I was a girl I wouldn't want the scar on my arm. He was such a lovely old Irishman, a proper doctor that you could trust :o) Both my daughters had Rubella injections, one in 1987 and the other one in 1991. I was told by a health visitor friend that it didn't give lifelong immunity though, only for about 10 years, and they should be given boosters, which they never were. She told me the only way to get lifelong immunity from Rubella was to actually catch it. I don't know whether that advise still stands now. My elder daughter was tested 5 years ago and found she had no immunity so was given an injection in case she caught it when pregnant. My younger daughter caught Rubella in 1996, so her immunity only lasted 5 years! When she was also tested 5 years ago she was still immune! I am still immune 43 years after having Rubella or German Measles as it was called then! Sue xx

because i was asthmatic , my daughter who is now 20 couldnt have whooping cough, she went on to have the disease, and spent 6 weeks in hospital. my 16 yr old had mmr changed over night has got aspergers autism his life and mine has been a living hell for 14 yrs, after complaining to gp, for 13 yrs i decided to look at his medical records to see if i had done as id thought for 13 years saying my son had changed , his notes are missing , my story not to put people off , but if the nhs are so keen to have your child imunised tell them you want 3 single, there was nothing like this scale of autism before this.

Out 2 had all the jabs, We felt that prevention outweighted the risk. Our daughter is asthmatic and has never had any side effects. But it is a personnal choice Everyone should do what is right for there family as they know the circumstamces. Jan x

Adding to this thread I only allowed my children to have the Polio, Diptheria & Tetanus jabs (1980s) & my daughter had the Reubella. I flatly refused the measles & whooping cough on the grounds that no one could guarantee they were safe. The MMR first came out when my 3rd was 1 year old and I refused this also because of the measles element. The health visitor accused me of being a bad mother and putting my son under death sentence for not allowing it. My eldest 2 had measles when they were 5 & 3, they recovered with no side effects. I had an old fashioned doctor & my mum who advised me on how to nurse them through the illness. None of my 5 grandchildren have had MMR or whooping cough jabs, again because my daughter was given too much conflicting information.

It isn't given anymore, or so the Health Visitor told me, because the chances of you having a reaction to the injection are far higher than the chances of you actually catching the disease. I think the Rubella and Mumps jabs are given to all children, so as to reduce the chances of an outbreak of the illnesses. My daughter had the MMR, but found out after the birth of her son that the wasn't immune to Rubella. If she had caught German Measles during the pregnancy....

I'm one of the ancients. We had Smallpox.(Thank Goodness) Diptheria, Whooping Cough and Tetanus. I Suffered Measels, Rubella(known as German measels in my youth.For which there were no immunisations at that time and fortunately suffered no side effects. Also had Yellow Jaundice(one the the Heptitis strains) What I find totally wrong ,Why give Immunisations for rubella to Males(it is to prevent feotus being damaged by the pregnant mother catching the virus). Why give Females the Mumps Vaccination ( The infection is more likely to inflame the Testes rather than the Ovaries...very rare indeed) One of my Grandsons sailed through all jabs and the MMR .His equally bouncy Bro. of 14. months Jnr. suffered a physical reaction and became a 'Poorly' child. My two daughters (B.1984 & 1986) both had the vaccinations against whooping cough, diptheria, tetanus & polio. The younger one had the MMR jab and I decided the elder one ought to have it too (even though she had already had the measles injection). My 11mth old grandson has had all his vaccinations to date and will have the MMR jab shortly.

Eldest two 1967/9 had all of there's youngest 1975 did not have whooping cough was very ill with it at 21/2 for 8 weeks. All five gchildren have had there's son's youngest in the top range of autism son always says he was fine till he had the jabs Valxxx

Hi Jenny Was going to put up a thread to see if anyone had heard from you. Yes both my sons were done for all but that was 40 and 36 years ago---omg now i do feel old!!!

My son's having MMR in separate vaccinations. So far he's had the measles and mumps as two shots. He's also a DPT. I think you also need to worry about the mercury or Thiomersal that is used as a preservative in some vaccines. Rose

Both mine had MMR and whooping cough vaccine . I had Measles as a kid and was very ill . Had Chicken Pox when I was 32 , ended up with pluerisey ...... xxxxx

The MMR jab came out when my boys were small, they only had the one jab which was available at the time. One jab, no follow up one, didn't give the right immunity and both boys had Mumps last year, aged 19, they were both very poorly. Tina x

Three of mine (born 1971, 1980 & 1984) had the whooping cough, tetanus and diphtheria triple but my daughter (born in 1976) didn't have the whooping cough jab because of her eczema. My GP wouldn't advise me one way or the other, but did eventually say that if she was his daughter he wouldn't let her have it - so she didn't. They all had a measles jab at 15 months except for elder daughter who had caught measles by then. Both daughters had rubella injections at 12. When my younger son was 6 I was advised to let him have MMR jab as they had just brought it in, but I refused as he'd already had a measles jab and had had mumps. My eldest grandaughter (14) had all the jabs including the MMR, but the other three haven't had MMR. Youngest grandchild (8 weeks) has his first jabs next Friday :o((( When I was a registered childminder I looked after a little boy who was perfectly normal until he had his MMR jab. He changed overnight. He now has a form of autism, which the ''experts'' won't say officially is a direct result of MMR, but privately.......his mother has been told it is a distinct possibility. My elder daughter, who used to work with me, saw what happened to this little boy and refused to let her daughter have MMR. My younger daughter also refused it for her son, as did my son for his child. The GPs are not happy about it, but have agreed it is the parents decision and have stopped sending reminders now, although grandson was sent an appointment for his pre school booster, including MMR which he hadn't had in the first place! Hi Jenny, Yes, both my children have had the MMR and whooping cough. At the age of three I nearly died from a combination of Measles and Mumps, I remember the doctor coming to see me every day, mum later told me that they were too scared to move me to hospital because the doctor didn't think I would make it!

Hi Jenny Yes I did when they were babies. Although, my daughter needed a tetanus injection recently and I rang the doctors to book her in. My daughter who is 19 attended and noticed most of the girls there had babies with them. She just thought that it was the day they did injections. Anyway, when her name was called the nurse said wheres your baby. My daughter replied she hadn't got one, but she was here for her tetanus booster. She said she felt like Vicki Pollard on little Britain and wanted to say she had swopped it for a Westlife CD. The nurse said it was the baby clinic and my daughter said this is when I was told to come. Ok said the Nurses. At this point she had one either side of her and they each injected her in each arm. There you are you have had a MMR booster and Polio and Tetanus booster. Dont worry the dose is ok for you as a booster. Don't think she was too pleased, no affects but she just felt so silly and moaned that she didnt even get a smartie. lol Ria xxx

Before the MMR my eldest had the whooping cough vaccine he still got whooping cough and gave it to me! He also had most of the childhood illnesses and has mild Asthma. My youngest had the MMR and hasn't had any of the childhood illnesses Susie x
