Hayley, I am pushing seventy at a terrifying speed. :-0) and I am also fat.... V. fat....... so I wear whatever I like which is comfortable... I mean I have to wear *cosy feet* shoes now.... not at all fashionable! ;-( But when I was forty I wore what I felt I looked good in, loved clothes me!! High heels? I loved them. You know exactly what you look good in, so wear it, there is no law about your dress. Deanna X

I find that my darling daughter will tell me if she doesn't like me in something so I tend to go shopping with her. Was once walking through a lingerie dept with my teenage (at the time) son on way to somewhere else and he stopped and in quite a loud voice said. Look mum you can get your work gear here!!!!!! I remember a little rhyme which started Nobody loves a fairy when she's forty Does anyone know how it continues? It's all right Hayley, relax, you can have another nine 39th birthdays yet. *** warning to all - stand by for a hissy drama queen, whoops, empress strop now *** Hope you really enjoyed your party and there were no uncomfortable rocks in the skip you used to sleep it off in. I shall never see forty again.... am over fifty...and enjoy wearing what I like...'little as possible in this heat.' For example...do you know ... 'Sloggy' elastic panties..well once the elastic goes out you can be very comfortable in them, while sitting in front of the t.v. or p.c. As the elastic wears you can then stretch them over your 'boobs' and look like a one piece cotton 'ensamble'...oh so very cool and comfortable... For evening wear I prefer long pants to a dress, eventhough I have beautiful long legs all the way up to my hips... At least I can sit as I like and be comfortable...and not worry about how ladylike I cross or uncross my legs.... I love my age group...as I can do what I like and get away with it!!! Lindy ;)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

The first forty years of life give us the text; the next thirty supply the commentary on it. (Quote by someone well known) Anyone got a good follow on to this? C

You got another few days to go before your life changes forever .................. then you go down to Oxfam and buy everything the 50 year old are discarding .... but you have to be quick ALL the 40 year olds are fighting for kit !! I seen your tree coming on in leaps and bounds.

Don't know why you are worried, just wear whatever you like and feel comfy in - I certainly haven't thrown out my wardrobe and started again just cos I am 60! Have a great birthday and enjoy being you, not a copy of a fashion mag lol Liz

Just wear what you feel good in. I am 46 years young and my son who is 25 nearly 26 tells me to act my age especially when I have been out clubbing with friends from work in Watford and he is out with his friends from work!!!! They have even asked me to join in with them and say to my son its great that you have got a young mum who enjoys herself!!! I think it embarrasses him but as I say you only have one life so enjoy it with what you do and what you wear.
