There are a million and one reasons why people feel the need to lie. As long as they lie only about themselves ................. then surely none of us need be concerned. Just sit back and let them entertain you ! :):):)

They must do it to feel less worth than the people who they want to impress,,,,,,,,,or just to seem more important than they really are,,,,,,,,,,,even white lie arent really acceptable as you then have to give reason for them,,,,,,,,,,,no even if its hurts be up front and tell it as it is,,,,,,,,,,

I think, for some people, it actually reaches the stage of mental illness. There is something in their life that has made them feel worthless, or ignored, or unimportant, and they start telling lies to embellish their life and make themselves sound good. Then it gets out of control, becomes almost an addiction and they actually believe their own lies. I believe that people who lie to this extent really need medical help in some form but, like all addictions, they can't get help unless they recognise that they have a problem. Mandy x

But Kitty is it just self confidence that makes people lie? I pity anyone who lies, as I know the truth always outs! But even when caught some people still do it!! Doesn't make sense to me! x

All lies get found out eventually, but some just can't help themselves. I keep telling my youngest this, some just don't want to know though. Tina x

Added by Diana answers to PINK!! on 15/08/2007 21:57:39 But LW how sad is that? I think that is very sad....lacking the self confidence to be open and honest because you feel you are not as good as anyone else must be a horrible feeling. Another form of lying is the white lies we all say to avoid hurting other people, they are harmless I think.

LW - I know you weren't refering to yourself - just find it so sad that people need to do it! xx

Ann I'm agreeing with you but I find it so disturbing that people need to! xx

Lancashire Witch Report 15 Aug 2007 22:03

Pink --- I wasn't refering to myself.!! Someone I worked with lied to be looked upon 'as a regular guy' - not dominated by parents who dictated his every move. As you say - insecure. LW

I don't know what all this is about or what the lie is...... ...but i think it's better to say nothing at all rather than tell lie's. Some people believe their own lie's which is sad and disturbing and convince themselves that what they say is true. Please don't let it upset you too much though. If the lie is public knowledge it will soon b'come yesterday's news. K xx

Depends on the type of lie but often it is to make themselves look/sound more important. Especially the type of lie about what they have done or said. Ann Glos

But LW how sad is that? My truths got me excluded from a crowd but I still could look myself in the mirror and like who I saw!! xx

Lancashire Witch

Lancashire Witch Report 15 Aug 2007 21:54

May lie - not to be important, but to be accepted as one of the crowd, maybe. LW

PinkDiana

PinkDiana Report 15 Aug 2007 21:52

why do people lie? Is it their insecurity and therefore they try to make themselves more important? or is it just down right stupidity believing we are all that gullible? xx
