I'm living in Newcastle as I'm at university there. Originally from Leeds, so I'm a good ole notherner! Amy x

You know Denis, you now got me wondering as to which fish n'chip place you visited. The one we've been going to ever since we moved to Saltburn (just after I was born) is the one right opposite the parish church, but there's nowhere to sit down and eat in there. There are 3 other fish n'chip places in Saltburn that I can think of and I'm guessing that the one you went to is the one that's on Ruby Street, which leads down to the sea front. I haven't been in it for years, but I vaguely seem to recall there being somewhere to sit down and eat in there. I'm assuming it's still there, I don't drive down that street very often. Might have to check it out now!

Hi Rach, I'm in Northumberland and often go to the "Toon". I love living in the North East and can't see myself moving anywhere else in the country. Sheila

Andy ,i was down two years ago and spent an hour or so looking through youre small shopping centre ,and going down a side lane to find the best fish and chips i have ever had. A sit down dinner served on paper at the table and signs on the wall saying that this was the oldest fish and chip shop in britain. ,is it still there and are they still as good? Fred.ptfg.&a&g&s.

Maybe we could try arrange a GC meeting up here? There seem to be quite a few meeting down south... What do you all think?

Denis, I find that it never ceases to amaze me these days how many people know of Saltburn and/or have family connections with the place. I'm positive that a few years ago whenever I used to say to people where I came from, nobody had heard of the place. Now like today for example, I ring up an hotel in Worcestershire to make a reservation and the lass I speak to tells me that her grandfather is from there! Andy

I worked in St Teresa's School for a term whilst I lived in Northumberland.

Another one for the pot,my grandparents and parents come from south shields but moved down south during the war to bucks where i was born. In the 60s i met my wife ,born in scotswood ,and we came back north ,and now live on the stamfordham road ,west newcastle.Andy dosn,t mention that saltburn is a very nice seaside town which is becoming very popular with holiday makers[perhaps he want,s to keep it to himself] and i can,t say as i blame him if he does. Denis.

Hi Rach, Yes indeed although my display name is more than a hint, lol. My dad was born in Heaton and my great uncle lived down in Jesmond Dene for some years before eventually moving to St Gabriels Avenue just off Chillingham Road until he died in 1996. I'm currently in Saltburn, which is 15 miles approx from Middlesbrough. Have close ancestral ties to Whitley Bay and some of the pit villages/towns in County Durham (West Rainton, Hetton, etc). One ancestor owned the Watts brewery in Newcastle.
