I have taught my dog to clean her own hairs up. She is like a self-cleaning oven!

Paul, thats strange. Both dogs have long hair, and leave it everywhere never had a problem with the Dyson.

Christine, thats the one that we have, and it's a nightmare. The problem isn't that it doesn't pick up - its fine once the brishes are cleaned, but it doesn't take long to clug up again. As for vacuuming the dog - she hates the vacuum, runs and hides in the kitchen every time we vacuum.

I have two border collies and a Dyson Animal, never had a problem. It hoovers the hair great, and I have never had a problems with hair around the brush.

The only logical solution is to change the dog. Dysons pick up Labrador hair.

Paul when I had my Welsh Collie (the image of Lassie except male) he wouldn't let me hoover until I had hoovered him. I had to get the narrow headed tool and he stood there while I hoovered him, he really enjoyed it,he wriggled as people do when they are having their back scratched. It meant I had very few hairs on the carpet though, so it was worth it. June xx

We have a Border Collie. Black and White, long-haired. She is just how you describe your Lucy, Paul. I used an old Henry. Put the Upholstry nozzle on and get down on my hands and knees three times a week. The other days I just use a smashing Ewbank Combisweep. Only got it a couple of weeks ago. It has four settings. Long Pile, Short Pile, Carpet Tile and Floor. It is really good. Life is a lot easier since i had it. No-one could complain about dog hairs as much as me. I am terrible with them. Just wish she would not leave them on the Kitchen cupboard doors. Jenny

I know this sounds a bit mad (surprise lol) but i put some trainers on and scuff my feet around the carpet for a few minutes (music on helps) and all the hair gathers in a big ball on the carpet, i then pick most of it up and put it in bin and then vacuum the rest up. Think i saw this trick in one of the mags but it does work, just dont do it when youve got company or theyll think youre barking.

Paul I have found the only thing tht really works is a damp cloth.It kills the static.Yes I have done a carpet on my hands and knees with one.I usually find those rollers useful for clothes,but nothing beats the damp cloth.Try it. Good Luck Rose

Lucy's long haired, and black and white, and has a remarkable trick. She leaves dark hair on anything light coloured, and white hairs on anything dark coloured. I'm sure she does it on purpose lol

Hi paul,same vac same problem im afraid!! let me know if you find a cure. our dog is a white boxer(dark blue carpet too so it stands out a mile)x

paul i have 3 british bulldogs and a dyson it picks up their hair beautifully lol but then again they are short haired lol susie

i have 2 collies (long haired) i use a stiff brush to gather up most of the hairs first, then hoover

can anyone recommend a decent vacuum cleaner that can handle dog hair ? We have a dyson, with a hepa filter etc, which is supposed to handle animal hair etc, but the problem is that the hair just wraps around the brushes, and you end up with a complete mess that has to be cut off every few uses. Anyone got any recommendations ? Other than shave the dog ?
