How many times do you vaccum? We do it every couple of days (we have an alsatian) and the Dyson seems to cope much better with that.. Our dog *loves* being hoovered. Especially around the neck... He is such a baby.

Patricia - good point !!! Laminate it is then. I'm sold on the idea.

Paul, if you are planning on moving soon then surely laminate flooring will be an assett (spelling). Im sure potential buyers would be more likely to put in an offer on a house without carpet as not only is it more hygenic and clean looking, it would also appeal more to the masses, also paul, although you may not smell it believe me, people can always smell DOG in carpeted houses (no matter how much shake n vac you sprinkle to mask it)

must admit I suggested to Sharon only the other day that we replace all the carpet downstairs with laminate. Dont' want to commit to it just yet though, as we might have to move in a few months....

Jack (Sahara) Report 18 Feb 2005 15:09

Paul, We have the same problem with human hair! Me and my daughter both have long hair and it gets everywhere. I end up on my hands and knees pulling it out of the carpet. We've now opted for laminate flooring downstairs - soo much better. So I would recommend you sling the vac and get wooden floor and a sweeping brush! Jack xx

Paul, dogs and carpets =HARD WORK. The only thing you can do if you want a hair free home is to invest in either wood or vinyl flooring, a quick sweep everydaywill keep the hairs away.

I have a belgian shepherd terveren Jake he has a thick undercoat like wool which sheds in clumps I have the dyson animal and it picks up great I have no probs with it wrapping round unless there is something else stuck in the roller like string or elastic bands I also hoover Jake with the nozzle on he doesn't mind he enjoys being pampered dont think ill try it on the cat though! love Jan x

I have a long haired border collie too. Seems to be an abundance of them on here!! It doesnt help much when he hates being brushed. He practically has a nervous breakdown at the sight of his grooming brush. Sounds like we need a dyson but I do agree with the tip about using trainers to make the hairs into clumps which are easily picked up.

Unknown Report 16 Feb 2005 11:46

Bob - the problem isn't that it doesn't pick it up, the problem is that it wraps around the roller, clogs the whole thing up, and if you don't clean it regularly, it stops picking up (thats what you call a circular arguement lol)

Maz from Cornwall Report 16 Feb 2005 11:16

Hi I also have the dyson 01 and would never be without it... I have a Bullmastiff, who thinks it is fun to shed his short prickly fur constantly, but the dyson 01 copes brilliantly with it!! Mazzie x
