Hi Anne If I remember your talking about the pub by the bridge. It wasnt called that years back. There was a club behind it called the Manor Club. That part of the area is quite interesting, as the canal used to run through there. They used to turn the boats round at South Norwood Lakes. Thats why the pubs down the High Street have nautical names. The Goat House Pub stood right on the edge of the canal and the rear garden of the pub still has the post where they used to tie the boats too. Hence the name Port- land. I could go on but I'm probably beginning to bore you. So I will shut up. Kindest Regards Bob

Just had a look on streetmap site, Anne - Stanger is off Portland Road, and it looks as if it runs into Clifford Road, not far from Norwood Junction. Joy

Hi Anne Sorry that my answers are far apart but I am on call. I played in the Manor Road Club on a couple of occasions, I was with a band called 'Denny and Renigades' many years ago now. I then played with the 'Herd' a Beckinham bunch from Joys' patch. Peter Frampton etc. I stood in for 'Jonny Kid and the Pirates' drummer for a while, he was a South Norwood lad, lived just off Albert Road S.N. David Bowie was from Joys' patch as well. Regards Bob.

Did you, Bob?!!! That's amazing! Was Denny's surname Laine? Pete Frampton used to be called Little Pete Frampton, and David Jones AKA DB was called Mrs Jones because he was one of the first to have long hair ? Pete's Dad taught art, didn't he? I went to Bromley Tech at Chislehurst / Bickley, and you probably know then where they went to school!! :) Joy [panicking slightly ... is my past catching up with me?!]

Joy and Bob hav'nt you got good memories, l wish l could remember things clearly!! I think l had Peter Frampton's autograph when they had a lot of pop stars down at Brands Hatch way back in the 60s, did he have a hit song? Definately remember getting Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and titch's autographs lol Anne
