Mine both had massive strops at the checkout when sweeties were involved. I sympathised with them VERY LOUDLY about how awful it was to have to look at sweeties when you were not able to eat them at all. After a stiff complaint citing health grounds and responsible family retailing Asda designated a sweet free checkout which we always now use if the children are with me. It is sometimes closed though I have suggested that there should be one permanently open check out which is sweet free. I found the sympathetic approach got more of a response from the people around me and they supported me strongly. When my children lose their temper they do the things that they know are forbidden in order to bait me. It says something when a small but furious person blows raspberries and smacks the trolley. And it makes people laugh. Don't give in though - I have often been congratulated by other people for sticking to my guns! Abigail

Hi emma, Have you seen the TV programme Driving Mum and Dad mad? It's on ITV1 tonight at 10. It might make you feel a bit better when you see what THOSE kids get up to!!!! God if they lived with me for a week.......Don't worry about your kiddies tantrums. It is only what all us Mums have had to deal with at some time or other. Personally I just used to tell mine that the longer they created the longer it would be before they got anything! Once, my daughter refused to even stand on her own two feet in the middle of our shopping mall and just flopped on the floor. Luckily a cleaner was nearby and I just asked her 'To brush my daughter up and put her in the black bin bag.' Then I started to walk away a little. She soon got up!!! My Gran always used to say, 'This too will pass!' It does, but that doesn't always help! Good Luck Julie

Because they either haven't got kids, or are too old to remember. I wholey sympathise. I am gearing up for a trip to Asda with my 3 yr old and my 21 month old. If any one sees a mad red faced woman with two screaming brats, it is only me because I refused to buy more sweeties.:o) Claire xx

Just been to tescos and my 2 year old point blank refused to go in the trolley, tried to open everything i bought and then had a screaming session at the checkout! Everyone looked at me like i was an alien....why do people do that?
