1957, H Samuel heart shaped engagement ring 13 1/2 guineas, as an apprentice, was nearly three weeks wages.unfortunately due to a metal allergy, she cant wear metal jewelery but I have hers saved, in a musical box I bought her, for her 17th birthday.... Karen, is the Tyne tidal? I'll fetch my metal detector.......LOL

We got our rings in H Samuel too. My mother-in-law bequeathed me her engagement ring. I had it valued for insurance purposes and was told it was made in 1911. since she got married 1949, it must have been 2nd hand and I have often wondered about its history. nell

DH got away lightly ;o) My engagement ring was a family heirloom and it cost him £50 to have restored. We ran off to Gretna to get married so our wedding rings were 'off the peg' (again, good old H Samuels) and cost £70, and £80! (which I paid for as I had the reay cash at the time)! Claire xx

Never had an engagement ring. Seemed a bit silly after 'living in sin' for 13 years before we got married. First wedding ring was about £10. On our 10th wedding anniversary we bought posher ones, mine was about £100, he was going to buy the £200 one, but it was 18 carat gold which is too yellow for my skin tone, I settled for the 9 carat and blew the rest on a new handbag and a picture for our bedroom. nell
