Can I put the opposite view for a moment ? How else CAN we view people online, apart from by their comments ? |

Hi Paul, It's very easy for people to be 'brave' on here and say unpleasant things that they wouldn't dare say in real life. I always try to be polite on here, even when disagreeing with people, and try to be rational in what I say. Off here I can be a lot more blunt and far less tolerant of ignorance and stupidity. OK, I understand your point, and you're right, some people do cummunicate differently when they're online, but I still say - how else are you to form an opinion of them other than by their comments ? |

Wendy, That's impossible! LMHO Gwynne, Thank you for always being so remarkably tolerant of my ignorance and stupidity! I'm sorry, folks, but I AM like this in real life - it's a case of take it or leave it, I'm afraid. CB >|< |

Paul i agree (for once lol), i think we do form our opinions of people on here by what they post and the way they post it and i dont really see anything wrong in that as its probably the only way that we can. I would think most people do come over pretty close to how they are in 'real life', it would be extremely difficult to create a whole new persona and carry it off indefinately. I think im pretty much as i seem on here apart from a bit toned down sometimes, but hey i dont want to totally put people off lol. |

I'm just the same on here as in real life. I try to treat people the way I'd like to be treated and hate confrontation. And I do smile and laugh a lot! Daisy A bit of a Pollyanna really! |

I personally think sometimes (not always) people read things in the mood they (the reader) are in.... not in the mood of the person who wrote it and thats where debates get over-heated!! |

that's usually true of humour, Pink. Sometimes, say a flippant remark gets misconstrued as being something else, it's not always easy to convey how something is being said. |

I think another good point is that you shouldn't form opinions too quickly. I've had people I've not spoken to on here before take issue with me over a single comment, taken completely out of context. First impressions aren't always correct ! |
