Hi Lou We used to stay in tents when we were brassic - some sites are quite near the seafront - most of the B&Bs seem to be around 30 quid per person per night but that's my experience and I don't know about generally:) David |

Hi Rachel, I was born in Brighton in 1952. With the help of a GR member, I have now traced my Boon family of Brighton back to the marriage of my 11 x great grandfather Nicholas Boon at St Nicholas Church in 1603. I am the 10th generation of Boon descendants to be born in Brighton! Pam |

When I was a child we used to go to various seaside resorts on the Kent/Sussex coast. One memorable year [can't remember when!] I went with my mum, dad, younger brother and my dad's eldest brother Jim my dad's second eldest brother George and his wife and their two children my dad's third eldest brother Sam and his wife and two children We all went by train from Sanderstead Station. I remember that as soon as we got to Brighton my dad and Sam wanted to get a drink - Uncle George thought they meant tea, but they meant beer! We ate in a restaurant and the first item on the menu was tomato soup, which I have always hated! We walked along the pier and saw a demonstration of glass-blowing. I also got a souvenir toy squirrel with a plush body and fluffy tail, which lived happily in my doll's house for years. My youngest cousin and my brother had identical swimming trunks and although there was nearly 2 years between them, they looked like twins that year. I have three photos from that day a) my dad looking as though he is about to throw a stone at the camera [he was a comedian!] b) my mum and both aunts paddling in the sea, fully clothed apart from bare legs and feet c) a back view of either my cousin or my brother, we aren't sure which! nell |

only just seen this thread - I was born in Brighton as was my father - I'm in Derby now, but up until my nana died we still visited regularly. My mum's always had a love affair with the place...something to do with the smell!!?? |
