Talk to her about mice and bogey -men. Or switch the electric off at the main. if you can,t bring yourself to do any of those, go to bed yourself and thank heavens you have got her - some of us are not so lucky. happy days

oh malc, you have my sympathies . we are looking after hubby's 83 yr old dad. [but he is suffering from dementia] he is a bit like a naughty toddler. but harder work. and i really do not think you can make them do anything they do not want to do........

Malc, I would make her a warm drink and a biccy. Leave her a little while and suggest she go to bed. Just like a child if you make her go, she'll push against you and it will become a battle ground. Good luck, M.

Malcolm I am still trying to get my 13 and 10 year olds to shut up and get into bed! Husband is comatose on the sofa downstairs and I am hiding in here! Put a rug over mum and let her sleep downstairs. nell

Hiya Malc You are NOT being a pain, your friends are here to help! Not having been in any similar situation, I'm afraid I can't really offer any advice, but would just like to say I'm thinking of you both and hope she gets well soon. Mandy xx

have you a portable tv you could put in her room, emphasing she'd be warmer in bed as the heating is going off... ~Jess~

I agree with Suzy, treasure the time you have with your mum and talk about her favourite subject, ie, the past.

Malc, If she's still up, bring down the duvet and leave her to it!! She may find that after one night on the sofa she prefers bed. However, in her latter years, my gran always slept on the sofa, so it may set a routine LOL maggie

I'd give my eye teeth to have my grandmothers here to stay up late to chat to BUT if you're shattered and she's not so well I can understand you being more concerned about getting her to bed! Mind you when mine (3 and 6) won't go, some quiet time talking is one of the best things to set the scene for bed without tears and tension. Have a lovely evening! Abigail
