I hate flying too. Terrifies me, but I make myself do it or I would never see anything of the world. A friend of mine explained to the steward that she was extremely nervous and before the flight, he took her to the cockpit and the pilot showed her all the hi-tech instruments and fail safe devices ect. She felt much better. Perhaps you should ask. Claire xx

My hubby will tell anyone, i hate flying. Its the take off and landing i fear. I went to Thailand alone this year, i had to do the take off bit alone, i did it....cant say i enjoyed it, but i did it and i was so proud of myself. Have to say, when i thought about it, it wasnt as hard as i expected. Just think of your holiday at the end of that flight maybe? Good luck. Donna

what are you actually afraid of? I feel safer in a plane than I do on the motorways of Britain. There is somewhere you can write to where you get help over your fears, i don't know the address but i think it is one of the big airports. someone on here may know. It is easy to say here is nothing to be afraid of but there isn't and it is a short flight. having said that irealise that fear is not rational and you probably need proper help to face your phobia. is ther anything on the net if you google 'flying phobia'? I acted on impulse yesterday and talked(ok nagged) my hubby into going on holiday to spain in October along with 10 other members of my family, only trouble is I m scared of flying and took the opportunity of this family holiday to test my phobia, thinking being.....If the plane goes down at least I ll be with my mum. Has anyone else got this phobia and did you overcome it? Any tips on keeping calm? I am now worrying about it even though its 5 months away, I have never flown before as we drive to our destinations (fine by me but unfair for hubby who does all the driving as we holiday in the south of France) Any advice greatly welcomed.
