My son had 2 but they recently died they never once bit and were brilliant pets although one of them got ill and we paid £150 to get him better and 3 months later he died of old age, people were saying to me you could buy another one for £3.50 my son was horrified at such a thought.................Denise.

hi steedie, Ihad two rats they were adorable Zak and Sky, when I went to buy one was advised to get two as they get lonely, only ever went into cage to sleep or do there buisness (very clean) animals. Of an evening they would sit on my shoulders and watch tv never got bit by either of them. But they did have one of the dogs once took me about 20 mins to stop nose bleed , mine you she did have her nose up there behind like dogs do pushing it around the living room lol. Broke my heart when I lost them within a month of each other. There faces are so cute. Good luck with gnasher. suex

We had 3 rats a couple of years ago and they were fantastic pets.We learned a few things while we had them. They are very social animals and suffer when they're kept in a cage on their own,so maybe you could get another as company.Ours learned their names,we got leads for them as well and took them for walks in the garden.Rats are very prone to respiratory infections, the sawdust-type of bedding irritates their lungs so use newspaper and nesting material you can buy at the petshops instead.Ours ate most things, they loved chicken bones, chop bones etc and chewed them until there was nothing left at all. They need exercise every day,we took them out 2 or 3 times a day and let them run around the living room.Hope you have a good time with your new pet! Steedie,I don't think you are mad at all.I really love rats, but them people think I am very odd. We have this folk memory of the rat infestations of the middle ages I suppose.I know that even today they say we are only ever 9 feet away from the sewer rats, but pet rats are different. They are highly intelligent. Did you know that they have been used to observe behaviour patterns. They respond much the same as humans to stress, over crowding and pressures of their society. The really do have nervous breakdowns and sit in corners rocking. It is amazing. I love them-Rose PS CATS AND CRISPS be careful of the salt levels, not good for cats

yes but dont put them in the bath with you!! they dont half scratch! lol. Basically any biscuits will do.. but the more chocolate the better. I used to give them their proper rat food but suppliment it every day with a few tasty treats, variety seemed to be the way, and not too much... especially things like bananas that go off quick. Ritz biscuits were another favorite and apple peel oh and cerial.. coco pops, sugar puffs and cherios...
