Some names become funny when seen by strangers, but are just accepted by close family/friends - I grew up knowing the Feltus family (good friends of my mother & grandmother), and thought nothing of the connotations of the name till talking casually to some friends of mine. One of the Feltus family married a man named Willie Speed - but poor Amy had a speech impediment which gave her great difficulty in articulating 's' sounds, so she always referred to her husband as 'Willie Peed'. The combination of initials and family names can be amusing at times too - my mother's family name is Caddy, so several of the family (Tom, Trevor, etc) have always been 'T Caddy'. Noel |

Sorry, it's another Fanny, but you've reminded me of our lovely Gaynor .... one day she told me about someone in her tree called Fanny Scratchett :) And one of mine isn't particularly funny in itself, it was my son's typical teenage hearing that made it amusing. He told my dad that one of his ancestors was called EUTHANASIA .... er, actually it was Euphemia! Mandy :) |
