Ooooh yes, Sue in Wales. That Pearl Fishermen duet is also DEVINE. One of my Mam's favourites too. I also love Rosini - very melodic.

Rhythm and blues and soul music are my favourite styles of music but my favourite piece of classical music is by far the Karelia Suite, Op. 11 written by Sibelius - it gives me goose pimples every time I hear it. My favourite version of it is on an old 33 called 'Sargent Conducts Sibelius' with the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent. Part of it was used as the 'signature tune' for an old TV programme which (I think) was called News Week. It is a truly wonderful piece - full of umph.

I'm surprised there's no Rachmaninov in anyone's list. Like the piano concertos and 2nd symphony. Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue Shostakovitch Jazz Suites Tchaikovsky's 6th symphony - the Pathetique Janice

No. 1 has to be Nimrod. then no particular order Entrance of the Qu of Sheba Any Bach organ music This may not come into your definition of Classic but record shops now seem to put all sorts where least expected, so TOP composer in my opinion - Gershwin.
