Thank you for the information on these documents,I did wonder why they sent them to me. The parcel was sent by normal post,I cant imagine why no one wants them,Land registry etc,and to think that a lot of these papers being destroyed, all that lovely handwriting being lost forever. Sad sign of the modern times I guess,no wonder so many skills are being lost. Val, thank you for the offer,I will see if I can make it,not very good at travelling. Now if it was in Plymouth,a different story. regards trish |

Hi Trish, You would have received these pre-registration deeds because conveyancing has gone electronic and the Land Registry and Mortgage Lenders no longer want to hold bulky deeds packages. The deeds previously held by the Land Registry have been (or are being) destroyed! They no longer issue Land Certificates or Charge Certificates just a sheet of paper called a Title Information document everything else is held on computer! Sorry for the boring lecture! Julie xxx PS Forgot to say keep them safe cos you will need them if you decide to sell the house! |

Gwynneth, I am sure I read somewhere that that is what mortgage companies are doing. Trish, how lovely for you, you will be able to show your Granddaughter the beautiful writing to encourage her. ann Glos |

That is great for you and I'm sure they will be treasured and kept safe... but I feel a little concerned that such documents are sent out to people who may have no interest and might dump them. Sorry, I don't mean to spoil YOUR enjoyment and the date coincidence is amazing. |

I know how you feel, I received all the documents etc when I bought my house in 2003. It was fascinating to see who had lived here before, how much it cost etc. Sam x |

Just had to share this with you all, what would you think? We recently changed mortgage companies, and today in the post a big parcel arrived. There was a letter saying, please find enclosed files and papers etc,the new mortgage company doesnt want these. You could have knocked me down with a feather. Me of all people who likes old documents, tracing dead people etc. There was every bit of history connected with my house. Who had lived there and when, old conveyancing documents,in copperplate writing, sealing wax. One of the documents was dated 12th July 1905,I had to look twice, and thought wow,how spooky is that.Exactly to the date 100 years old. It had also had the number of the house,it had been changed three times. It had also been just a name, and the name is the name now,of the nursing home my mum is in. Do you think that this has all been too much of a coincedence. I shall keep these documents in a safe place. The calligraphy of these documents are something to see, also on a Tuesday evening,I teach my granddaughter calligraphy lessons. Sorry Im rambling now,but was so excited. regards trish |
