Pc whizz required help!!!!

lol Does anyone know why I continually get the message 'there is not enough free memory' when I check memory I have 5.86gb used and 68.6gb free so I cannot understand why the memory is low or as usual am I missing something? lol xxhugxx

It is virtual memory that the PC uses to run programs that is coming up with no free memory

isnt there a way to allocate some of the disc drive space to help out with virtual memory? or is that done automaticaly? Bob

Two entirely different components Bob so that's not possible. The disk drive you refer to is your Hard drive. Thats where all your programmes and documents are stored in the permanent memory. The Virtual memory is your RAM and comes in sticks which slot onto your mother board. They're your temporary memory and enable your PC to actually operate and for you to exchange information whilst running a programme eg. copy and paste in Word or Drawing in an art pack age. If you keep running out of virtual memory then you'll need to add RAM. If you right click on MY COMPUTER and have a look it will tell you what size your processor is and how much RAM you have. Windows XP needs a minimum of 256mb RAM to run efficiently (will run on 128mb will struggle) Hope that helps. XX Sioux

Excuse me Sioux, But what is virtual memory? virtual memory is:- A paging file is an area on the HARD disc, that windows uses as if it were RAM. in my case it is set at 768 MB Total paging file size for ALL drives...768 MB Bob

Hubby is an IT expert!!!Stu and Bob are right, but for long term you need to upgrade your memory. Laura xx
