We must get tighter controls on the ownership of them before we follow America in a downward spiral... Friend of son's (only 36) found dead (in Illinois) from a gunshot wound last night, so sad...what a waste of a young man's life. What a tragedy for his family, who I met at son's wedding last year. Oh Em - what a World we live in! The London bombs sickened me. The disregard for human suffering disturbs me. When you have a young teenager raping girls under 10 in a park, I wonder, what are the values/examples in his home? BUT there are millions of good and decent people out there, they just don't get their stories in the press often. Lily |

We unfortunatley have them in our little town too! Someone was shot last year not too far from where i live...... and thats in the better area, so god only knows wot's going on in the rough end! c x |

I am sorry BUT we already have the tightest gun control Ever..........NO one is allowed to have ANY sort of gun without authority.. EXCEPT the CRIMINALS!!!.. handguns have been banned since Dunblane......What more do you want......do you realise that we do NOT have an Olympic Pistol team? because of this ban.......... Bob |

Bob - lucky you not living near a big city! I am 8 miles south of Manchester and there seems to be a shooting/stabbing every week reported. Drugs seem to be at the bottom of most of it, perhaps we should get tighter legislation to stop the traders in these lethal things? I wish I knew the answer. Lily |

Lily, I appreciate your point, But what can you do with legislation? Criminals, and the like can get hold of anything........the Law wont make any difference, yep, I agee that a lot of gun crime IS fuelled by the drugs culture.... Peterborough, Does have its problems, also......... Bob |

The only people that the tighter gun controls penalised are the law abiding conscientious gun owners. We have 3 shotguns all legally owned and securely controled (one of them being mine!) and I feel all the more secure for it. ........but I'm also aware of how easy it is to get hold of an illegal gun, and believe me the illegal type would be easier to conceal and have far more devaststing destructive power :~( Any object is only as dangerous as the person who's hands it's in. eg. a sherman tank is benign until a lunatic gets inside on a wrecking spree.
