Thyanks for your replies. Paul - How can I try doing it manually? Do you mean when I press the eject button and it opens a little to try and then open it manually or do you mean something else? |

for what its worth replacing a laptop rom drive is more expensive than for a PC. better to try sort it yourself but if its the cd thats jammed then be carefull you dont damage the TOC or the cd no good. and take care not to knock the laser out of alinement. Paul |

Just had a thought .... if it won't work..... have a look to see if there is a fine hole on the front of the drive - near the eject button?) IF so you could try poking something in it .... it's the manual release. I've never had to do it but I know all the drives on our home PC's have them. XX Sioux |

We had that with our desktop - wouldn't read the desk/and or wouldn't open, had to replace it. Would agree that it sounds physical too. Lisa |

Ooo Ouch .... sounds physical rather than software. Even if there were a further upgrade, when you press the eject button the disc drive should respond to the command. The fact that it's opening a bit means it's getting the message but can't comply. Try closing the drive and give the laptop a shake then try opening it again..... failing that the drive eject is buggered :( XX Sioux |

Hello, I have given my old laptop to my friend and set her up with AOL and tghen sent a disc which I loaded up for her tonight, then says a further AOL 9.0 upgrade is available if I go to keyword etc etc. Anyway have now tried to eject the disc and the disc drawer will open but only a little bit and cant take the disc out. Could this be because there is further upgrade to upgrade or could it be jammed. It is a compaq Presario computer. Thanks in advance, Jayne |
