Many thanks, Em, Davo, and Pat, for your replies. It's much appreciated. I am still thinking ........... I think Oxfam will win. Bea x

Bea, I know exactly what you mean and sending you that umbrella is far too pushy. I would think they know a certain amount of people they send these to would just donate to the charity and then once you started donating you will feel its difficult to stop. If a charity did that to me I would be put off, I prefer to make my own mind up, the charity shouldn't feel the need to coerce people to supporting them. I think your suggestion to give the umbrella to oxfam and let them know is a good idea, not sure what else I would do, I certainly wouldn't keep it or send it back. Good Luck in what you decide. If someone has sent you something which you have not ordered or asked for, you don't have to do anything. If they ask for it to be returned, ask them to collect it. dave

I have received, in the post, a ladies umbrella, from a charity I have never heard of - Feed my People. Their address is - PO Box 794, Crawley West Sussex RH11 7YE Registered Charity No 261347 They claim to help children in Africa by sending food, medical care etc. The letter is 'signed' by a Kent Stewart, he suggests sending at least £15. I feel loth to send money to a charity I have never heard of, how do I know the money will get to those who need it? What should I do? 1 Keep the umbrella and send donation to the charity. 2 Donate umbrella to an Oxfam shop and write to FMP to tell them what I have done. 3 Something else. I would be very glad of your opinions, folks, also, if anyone has any knowledge of this charity. ( I shouldn't really be getting communications from unknown companies, as I have signed up for Mail Preference Service.) This makes me sound very mean, doesn't it, but I do actually donate by Direct Debit to several well-known charities every month. Bea.
