Everybody's far too clever. Bearing in mind the other thread about IQs of less than 70 I had wondered if it was worth organizing a Virginia USA meet but I think it may be best if we stayed away. |

Felicity, that must have been awful. I passed the 11+, but my mum tried to get me into the local comprehensive cos she didn't think I was clever enough - and I only ended up with the 4 GCE's!! I didn't know until I was 35, and by then I had been in the diplomatic service, then 'rose' to be a fish gutter, factory worker, agricultural labourer and finally a single parent on a council estate!!!! - THEN I found out I was clever lol I agree with Bryan - the university of life is the best education. maggie |

I've got very little common sense apparently. Does this mean I have a high IQ? |

My Mum is in the top 1% of Mensa and is as thick as next door's dog. Sometimes it frightens me that someone so dozy is allowed out in public without a licence or a keeper, lolol. |

Maggie, I loved that programme! A light-hearted look at life from an unexpected angle - just how I see it. ;>))) Not sure about my IQ now, but I was called 'too clever for my own good' a few times! CB >|< ... and now a song for Bendy - In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, On the trail of the lonesome pine ... All together now - sing up! |

When I passed the 11+ they told us that was in the top 10% of the country but I am thick as two short planks normally. Even my mother used to say for a clever girl you have no common sense at all. Weighing it up, Id rather have had common sense guys. I even look at the girls on the supermarket tills with awe. I bet Id get all the things mixed up and not scan properly and drop things etc. But I do have intuition which is good. |

I agree Heather. I have a pretty high IQ, but it doesn't seem to mean anything in life. I still have no common sence, and rubbish at practical stuff, and my hubby who has a lower IQ than me holds a much cleverer and responsible job! I'd rather have the common sence and not get laughed at for being so gulliable (sp)? (see, I can't even spell)! lol Claire xx |

I just remembered a classic example of this - it was always said my mum 'married below herself' because her father died and she was the eldest and didnt get to uni. She married my dad, a docker in London - they met when he picked up her bike for her! Well, a few years back she and dad were going out to Aus to see my sister. Mum showed me the tickets, 'Look at this, it takes us 24 hours to get there, but only 12 coming back'. She absolutely meant it. Whilst, rough diamond dad, looked at her gobsmacked then at me (who was agreeing it was a good deal!!) then back at mum. If you dont know why you probably have a high IQ. |

Most IQ tests I've seen measure lots of different types of thinking - logic, reasoning, problem-solving as well as the ability to match shapes, patterns etc. So you can be good at some bits and not others. My mother tells me that one of my primary school teachers told her I had an IQ of 140 (but since I don't know what that's out of, its meaningless). My son and I did a light-hearted one on the internet - we both scored 122 - he was declared a practical professor because he scored highly on maths and problem-solving, whereas I was a word warrior because I was good at the word puzzles. nell |
