Maz Your thread reminded me of Nancy Mitford's novel, 'Love in a Cold Climate'. At the end of the book, the narrator is discussing her dead cousin with her mother (known as the bolter because she has run off with so many men). The daughter says that she - the cousin - would have been happy with a man 'he was the love of her life' and the mother says sadly 'Oh darling! One always thinks that! Every, every time!' Some people meet a soulmate, others don't. some people are promiscuous, some have serial marriages/relationships. I don't think of my husband as 'the love of my life' but I think we are meant to be together and I know that despite all the ups and downs we are fundamentally there for eachother. nell

I've been married 25 years and definately haven't found mine. Can't see I ever will now!

Thought I had found mine several times, but there is only one I still have dreams about at night and I think he really was the one true love of my life - it was real 'eyes meeting across a crowded room'(well, pub) stuff too. However after 7 traumatic years of 'I can't live with you and I can't live without you', we finally split and within just a few years he had married, twice, and has been with the same woman, half his age, for around 20 years and they have three kids. If he sees me out, especially if he is with his daughters, he will avoid me like the plague. I don't think I will ever feel like that about someone again. When my son's girlfriend moved into her new flat, I realised it was just along the road from his house so now whenever I visit I have to drive past his home - it's a funny feeling.

I'm not sure that the love of your life and your soul mate are necessarily the same person. I think living with someone with whom you are always in tune and complete agreement would get a bit boring. I met my OH at a fairly early age and we have been arguing ever since but I wouldn't have it any other way. My soul mate was a friend with whom I rarely argued but could never have lived with.
