Everyone really is different aren't they. I think it great though. There is 10 years between my sister and i and 12 with my brother. My mum was 18 whe she had me and then waited 10 years until she had my sister. xx |

How topical - just been reading a BBC newsthread about how doctors think women having children in their 30s are 'defying nature'. Since most women don't start menopause until their 40s or 50s obviously nature is keen for women to have children later as well as earlier! My two children were born when the time felt right for me and my partner. We had been together for a long time, but spent our early years in a flat with one main room for kitchen/eating/living and an unheated bedroom. Once we had bought a house with a garden and my husband was earning enough for me to stop working, we had our boys. I was 35 when I had Will and nearly 38 when I had Daniel. There are pluses and minuses to when you have your children, but the best time is surely when it feels right. Yes, I get tired, but when I had my first child and went to baby and toddler groups I found mums in their 20s who looked far more shattered than me! I have the advantage of a little more experience (I daren't say wisdom!) to give my children. Both my mum and my mum-in-law had children relatively late, so I guess it was natural for me to follow the pattern. nell |

mid 20s onwards is a good age isnt it?? Someone i know had their first child at 42 years old, which personally i think is not too old to have children, but to start your family yes and te thought of all the complications and risks tat could take place would scare me. Then again some people just are not ready to have them until later in life are they. Every one is different xx |

I had my son at almost 29 and my daughter at almost 33. My cous had her first at 29 and she is due her second child in October, she will be 32 & 1/2. The times right for people at different ages. There is no right age to have a baby. Most of my circle of friends have kids that are young adults now, and here am I with a ten year old and a six year old. ( I'm happy about that) The only difference is that I have done all my living (Clubs etc) before my kids, (so feel as if Ive missed out on nothing) and they have had to wait until their kids are older to enjoy all of this, as they were young parents struggling when their kids were small....and couldn't afford to go out and do the things that you do when young. (I remember going round my mates, who had a toddler and I had to be careful not to go on about what id been doing (Clubbing etc) as I knew she missed that and was a little sad that she couldn't afford it (as she had a child and home to consider) Elaine x |

Just what i though 26 is a good age like that you can live your life a little first. I don't know why my friends had children at such a young age, all they do now is complain that they can't travel and go out like i do, and they wonder why!!!! Sheila i can't imagine my life without having children but i know others who havent had children, they are quite happy with children in the family where they can give them back after a little while lol. xx |

Hi Claire, I was 28 when I had my son - we'd been married just over 3 years. I was 5 years into my career and we had our house about as we wanted it and had had a few holidays abroad so the time seemed right. Gwynne |

I was 26, nearly 27 when I had my first. We had 5 years of marriage and a few good holidays first. ;) I had my second at 28. I think it worked out perfect for us, but no one can tell you when you are ready. Claire xx |

.... when you had or want have your first child? Most of my friends have at least 2 children already and they are at least 4 years old now. I love cildren i work with them everyday (except the weekends of course) but i am in no hurry to have them of my own just yet. My fiance and i have said we would like to start our family in 2-3 years, we will both be 25/26 years old. xx |
