D-I-L was sent home from hospital friday, still having pains, these got more intense again by Saturday afternoon, so went into hospital for a check, nothing happening so was told she could either stay in hospital or go home, she chose to go home. Last night they eased off and she got a good nights sleep, and so far this morning she remains pain free. Lets hope it continues that way. Val |

Val Try not to worry. I have family members who were born very early, weighing the same as a bag of sugar (2lbs) they are now strapping 6 foot lads aged 30+ !! Positive thoughts for you d-i-l son, & you & your family. Think positive. There are wonderful things they can do nowadays. Joan xx |

Val Take a look at this NHS direct web site. http://www.nhsdirect*nhs*uk/interactivetools/pregnancy/default*asp?weekno=31 Remove * replace with a dot It says baby could weigh 3 lb 5 oz & lungs are virtually fully formed. Please try not to worry. It is premature, but not too premature. I hope everything goes ok. Joan xx |

Thanks for your messages of support, and telling me a baby born now could be ok. Have just heard that they intend giving her a steroid injection to try stopping the contractions, and that she is not dilated at all. There are no special care baby beds available, so hospital is ringing round trying to find one incase of need. Val |

Don't worry too much Val I am sure things will go ok, these things happen often, you may think oh its easy to say but my daughter was premature and I had many false alarms from 30 weeks on. Things turned out ok in the end and she was just under 5 weeks premature and all went well. Love to you and all the very best to your D.I.L and her baby. Pat x |

Morning Val. I hope everything is going OK. My David was born over 7 weeks early in 1971 and then things were so much diferent I didn't see him till he was a week old. He was born in one hospital and they had a ambulance stood by took with an incubater in, to take him straight off to prem baby unit. He is a fine strapping lad now and we had very few problems (except for being a crier). Things have improoved so much nowadays. Hope baby decides to stay snug in Mummy's tummy for a few more weeks. Germaine x |

Hi Val Here's another one .... my son born at 32 weeks weighing 3lbs 14oz. Now 6'2' and 16 stone (yep, built like a rugby player!) and has his 17th birthday next month. I know how worried you must be, because I can remember my parents telling me all about their nightmare afterwards! But we're all sending positive thoughts and hope that all goes well. Love Mandy :) xx |

val my son was 10 weeks prem and weight 3lb 10oz But just to let you know the steroid injections are to speed up the development of the lungs so that if the baby does come early they would be able to breath better and might not need to go on a ventilater (spelling). I had 2 steroid injections and my son was on ventilation for 30 hours which is nothing compared to some others. Take care Julie |

that was good to know Julie about your son, I was told about the steroid injections being for babys lungs, and she has had 2 of those now. Do there seem to be more premature babies being born these days? |

The weight sounds good Val. Try not to worry too much, as I said my relatives were just under 2 lbs, now are both 6 foot strapping lads. Be prepared when you see Baby as he/she will look very tiny & shrivelled,(spelling) bit of a shock at first but they are tougher than you think! This was nearly 40 years ago , so Hospitals are far more advanced now. Best of luck, & hope everything goes all right for you all. Hopefully soon you will be a proud Grandma. (((HUG)))) Joan xxxxx |
