Almost forgot.....the Asst Manager who really stressed me out and double booked us, so we had to change the date.....he was sacked!! Rodger the Manager, he laid on a great buffet for us on the house!! The next one is already booked....Sat 14th Oct 2006, same venue. I know its not the easiest venue to get to, but its a special place now. As i have plenty of time, i will do what i can to organise transport/lifts etc next year. |

Well done Donna, Gaynor would have loved the speech. I am sure that you are exhaused, physically and emotionally but i am equally sure that you feel it was worth it. Ann Glos |

Well done Donna - lovely speech and glad you all enjoyed yourselves. I wasn't around at 4pm but I have raised a glass since so I hope that counts! Gaynors condolence thread was the very first thread I replied to on the General Board - she was obviously a very special lady to many many people. Debby |

The speech. Several people have asked me why this is called the Bucks meet when we’re in Oxford One simple answer would be, Gaynor Susie and I are hopeless at Geography! We honestly thought it was Bucks! Some 16/17 months ago, in my infinite wisdom, I thought I would organise a GR meet. Then Gaynor called me with the crashing news. She had called me for strength and support and I fell to bits on her. After a few minutes, I pulled myself together and Gaynor said, ‘you finished now’? ‘Listen lady, I know how strong you are and I need to borrow your strength for a while, from then on in her earshot and presence, we all stayed as strong as we could. Not always easy as Gaynor pulled no punches……..she was leaving us, she didn’t want to go, but that’s life as she put it. Gaynor lived in Bucks and Susie suggested a Bucks meet so it was close by for Gaynor. With Len’s help the meet went ahead a year ago today here at The Lambert Arms!!……we had a great day and Gaynor was the belle of the ball! She loved the idea that the party be repeated one year on, but sadly without her. Today we are all fulfilling a promise made to her last Christmas by Susie and I. The night Gaynor died, our hubbies knew Susie and I needed to be together, they both planned a sickie from work the next day meaning we could all spend the day together and be on hand if Rob needed us. We did something quite significant that day…..we sat and ate endless amounts of pizza and us girls had a little glass of wine…..well ok, 2 bottles……it needs to be noted, Gaynor had become addicted to pizza in the last months of her life and Rob had this habit of topping our glasses up with wine! Every week we went to see her we dined on pizza and wine, great stuff! It was also this day, some thing Gaynor said to both Susie and I on so many occasions became a reality. Youll both be ok when ive gone, you’ve got each other. I never thanked Gaynor for introducing us, but I hope she knew, through her, Dave and I gained two fantastic friends and their huge wonderful family. Gaynor may have thought I was strong, little did she know, I drew so much strength from Susie and still do. Wong, i picked you a bunch of flowers as a little ta love! I would like to propose two toasts. The first to the Pink fund, which has now raised almost £30,000 for Cancer Research UK and that amount continues to rise. The Pink Fund! The second, as many are doing throughout the UK and Overseas today at 4pm: To GAYNOR!! |

Had a great day, lovely to see everyone. I managed the speech, did have to stop once and was shaking like a leaf! It was an emotional day, but a fun one as well. Rob and the family coped so well, it must have been so hard for them today. I will post the speech so you can see it. Love Donna xx |
