to pass your driving test? I have been learning on and off for 6 years (gave up when i had my son) picked up again in june and had my test yesterday. I was really annoyed with my self for the silly mistake i made which caused me to fail. I was fine with it in general, had feeling i would fail. then I phoned my nan and told her. she was great said maybe next time, then my granddad practically disowned me for it! demanding to know when my next test was and calling me silly. then my mothers boyfriend started calling me silly this and stupid that, generally making me feel a complete failiure. i love relatives! not giving up though, booking another test for November. I hate to say it but you did ask! I passed first time, it is nerve wracking though and I don't know that I would ever want to do it again! Keep trying you'll get there and you'll be a much more experienced road user when you do! Julie xxx |

Hi Corrina (what a lovely name), good luck with your next test, at least you know where you went wrong. Perhaps you shouldn't tell your rellies about your next test, giving them no opportunity to nag you. Or perhaps you should tell them how difficult it is to pass these days and give them a sample of the written paper - I bet they couldn't get half the questions right! |

I actually did that with hubbie! he was giving all the man talk 'id pass with my eyes shut blah blah blah'. so i told him to prove it. stuck him on the computer and he failed miserably! oh how i chuckled. of course it was because 'he couldnt see the questions properly', 'they were misleading' etc etc! corrina |

LOL - there's always an excuse when it comes to the others isn't there but you have to be perfect!!!! Never mind, you'll soon be out on the road on your own - just watch out for those who think they know everything. :-))) |

I passed at my first attempt. I was 17 and had 14 lessons. It probably ranks as my greatest achievement in life - having done little else since that I can brag about ! |

Corrina, The Driving Test is just to make sure that you can control the vehicle correctly, and that you have knowledge of road signs etc. True skills only come from practice, so make sure Hubby lets you drive as much as possible. Most people fail because they wind themselves up too much, try too hard, and make mistakes. Next driving test just relax and show the Instructor that you ARE indeed capable of transporting yourself and others around the place without being a danger. See you on the A27. Jim |

I passed 1st time when I was 17. Things were a bit different then though (1978) There is more to it now with the theory test and more cars on the road etc., but I suppose whatever way things are thats what you are used to. My mother in law took about 6 or 7 goes until she passed. She was about 50 by then. She then drove a couple of times and that was it!! |

Only once for me. Guess I was lucky and had a nice female examiner. You CAN do it. My best friend just passed after her 4th or 5th attempt (she won't admit how many she actually did lol) |

I falied my first test when I was about 18 and did'nt bother again for a long time. When I started again at 28 I passed first time - but I did not tell anyone when I was having the test just pretended I was going for a lesson, I did'nt feel as pressured with no-one knowing as if I failed no-one would have known. Good luck with the next test - My theory is the clever you are the longer it takes as you worry more, as I have a few friend who are quite dippy and don't have the brains to worry and they are the ones who always fly through first time! Regards ~ Louise |

I didn't start taking driving lessons untill i was 29 . Took to it like a duck to water, had 10 lessons and passed first attempt . But i must admit that if the test was the same then as it is now i don't think i would have ,well not without a few more lesson anyway. If you feel comfortable and at ease driving you will pass it next time . Cath |

I took three tests. I took one when I wasn't really ready at 18, I'd just had soooo many lessons. I barely had any practise between lessons as my Dad wasn't very patient with me. I then chickened out of the next one. When I was 28 I started driving again - my husband was working in Ireland and it seemed daft to have a car sitting on the drive unused. I was much more relaxed about the tests when I was older. I didn't feel I was being judged, just my driving. The first of my tests as an older driver I failed mostly through judgement errors - practise makes perfect. I conned all my friends to sit with me for stuff like shoping trips and playgroup runs. One month later I took my test again. I still made mistakes, including stalling while trying to turn across a busy road. I passed because the tester said I had safely and quickly dealt with all my mistakes and proved I was not a danger to other people. I'm glad I passed when I did. Less than a week later I had to drive, accompanied only by a 2 year old, from West Yorks, via the Manchester ring road, to Holyhead. Then I put the car on the ferry to Ireland so we could fetch my husband home. You can do anything after that!!! Good luck to you. It's not when people think you should take a test, it's when you feel ready, AND DRIVE EVERYWHERE UNTIL THE NEXT ONE! Vicky |
