I'm seriously thinking of giving up Ron but I have to be really positive, determined and the timing has to be right otherwise I know I'll fail. I'm now short of breath just going up stairs so know I have to act soon. I did stop with the patches for 6 months and stupidly started again - thing is, I had found it surprisingly easy up to that point. Debby

I tried several times but then those silly 'stop smoking' adverts came up on the telly which made me remember that I wanted one. So my advise would be to not watch the telly. Good luck.

Well done Ron! Keep it going I gave up 27 days ago. My best advice is to keep yourself busy so you don't have time to think about fags. I've just started decorating my hallway and then I'm going to do the front room and my little one's bedroom. All my housework gets done these days and I've never been on so many long walks! lol Good Luck! Jeanette x

My Sister finally gave up this year after more than 20 years of smoking. She joined the Stop Smoke thing through the NHS and it helped her such a lot. You can do it Ron - keep strong. Kaye x

I want to quit. is that NHS line any good?

Erikoinen

Erikoinen Report 22 Oct 2005 16:25

Kevin as I have already said to Ron the NHS line 0800 169 0 169 passes you on to your local health authority the local health authorities seem to have their own programs for dealing with quitting. I found my local health authority to be very helpful and supportive. Ken xx

Unknown Report 22 Oct 2005 17:06

Yes Ron!! Day 38 for me!! I think day 2 was really bad for me because i felt dizzy all the time, oxygen levels and all that! But i did think that if i had a ciggie then i would feel an awful lot more dizzy!! I called the helpline but i had already gone cold turkey for 48hrs by then, the guy who spoke to me talked me through the craving withdrawal and made a lot of sense.. Well done for getting this far!! Keep it up!! Karen

Hi Ron, well done , My hubby gave up 18months ago and Im so shocked, but pleased that hes done it, I thought he would be grumpy but he was great,I think the secret is to be ready , no amount of pushing and scare mongering will do it, he did have acupuncture but did say that he was more determined because it was so expensive having the acupuncture!!lol
