Lol Trish :0) I don't bother too much on here about other people's spelling/punctuation. Mine's not perfect either. Also there are things like dyslexia to consider as well, for all we know the person we're speaking to could have that or something else that hinders their grammar. So long as I can understand what they're saying, that's what is important. Juliexx Don in the past I have found that parents are discouraged from helping their children with their homework because the way they were taught is different from the way their children are taught now.

Bridget, that was beautifully put, you have nothing to worry about. I agree that sometimes it can be aggravating when to, too and two get confused but it is not worth 'mithering' over. It would be awful for someone to feel discouraged from writing in case their grammar was corrected. (And we have had this subject many times before, people get hurt over it). On the subject of a lower case i, I am sometimes guilty of this, it is my typing that is at fault not my grammar (I have A level English grammar, I can spell and write correctly when I take the time). My problem is typing quickly to keep up (I am not a touch typist) I don't hit the capital key at the same time as the letter key and often end up with lower case. In word and on e mails spell check corrects this, on here we don't have spell check facility. That is my excuse! Ann glos

Hey! I left school in June 2001 at 18. (I'll leave you to do the maths) and I know my to's from my two's and my too's! To - as in to go, to eat, to do Two - 2, the number and nothing else Too - as in too much, too high, too hard, too wet, too stupid (opps said that out loud! ) Too clever, too easy Need I go on?? I've seen other homophones misused as well (please note that I finf kids are often the worst as they are not taught grammer in the same way, if they are taught it at all these days). For, Fore, Four Flower, flour Sea, see tea, tee know, no sow, so great, grate not, knot and not forgetting - its and it's (it is)

A long time ago a similar thread to this appeared on the board regarding spelling, punctuation and such like. At that time I was fairly new to these boards and did not have the courage to reply, mainly because I am as thick as two short planks regarding this subject. “Should I reply” I asked myself but decided against it thinking my reply would be mauled to pieces for it’s bad grammar, spelling mistakes and misplaced, or lack of punctuation marks. What I wanted to say then was the following.. There are a lot of older people on these boards who had left school and were out working by the time they were 14 years of age, needs must in those far off days when every penny contributed to the household counted. I was one of these people and sadly a lot of my school days were spent learning subjects which would be of no help to me in later life. Our parents had to buy our school books, usually second hand and should a boy or girl show promise they were denied the chance of further education because the parents could not afford the books or uniforms required. Can you imagine the courage and tenacity it took for some of us older board members to learn and enter the world of computers, a world completely alien to us old fogies, a world that allowed us at the touch of a few keys to get in touch with our children in far off places? How I envied board members their wonderful way with words and turn of phrase, their knowledge on almost any subject and confidence in expressing their views and opinions. In time I became a little braver and ventured forth with threads such as “Childhood Recollections” I cant tell you of my joy on receiving a good feed back, it made this old codger so proud to have had the courage to accomplish that! Of course .I knew there were many grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors along the way BUT did it matter? We can’t all be Einstein’s! In one stroke, petty criticism can demolish this wonderful new world we have just discovered, a world that means so much to our less fortunate brothers and sisters confined to their homes through ill health. My lack of education will not deter me from contributing to these boards, it took a long time to build up the courage to do so as I am sure was the case with many others. All we ask for is To? TWO? TOO? be a little more tolerant. to us uneducated mortals??LOl Bridget x

People just dont seem able to spell anymore. I am amazed at the requests that some people post on other boards - It sounds as if we are being rude if we ask , but when someone asks for a look up, how are we supposed to know what on earth to look for if they cant spell it correctly in the first place? ie Arther - that is so common Willium- crops up quite often Lankashire - Excuse me? where is that? If these are hastily posted - why? if typing takes you two minutes, reading it back can take no more. Jess
