To whomsoever it may concern as I don't want to pick an argument either but I hate generalisations of any kind: I declare myself only a little bit meat eating precisely because I am concerned about the life that farmed animals lead. I buy only organic/free range etc produce - which costs a lot more and is more difficult to find, so we eat meat less often in our house than we might otherwise and make every piece of meat we do eat count. Whatever we have gets used fully, there is no waste. I believe that an animal that has given its life to feed us deserves us to respect it by making use of every bit of it and not throwing the smallest piece in the bin (we make stock etc as well for other meals). Our children have been brought up to respect animals, to understand what the meat they are eating is from (we make no pretence), to respect the sacrifice the animal concerned has made, and to make a decision about eating it for themselves. If they decide in future to be vegetarian, as I have been at various points in my life, then I will have no problem catering for that and will not make them feel that they are being awkward in any way. Incidentally, most of our midweek meals contain no meat, or a very little meat (I can make a little meat go a very long way by adding lots of veggies and pulses). Oh and by the way I also recycle everything that is recyclable, keep a compost heap at the end of the garden, feed wild birds, grow my own organic veg, and conserve energy by not using too much electricity/gas indoors. I don't feel guilty about my lifestyle and don't feel any need to apologise for it. Cheers to everyone else no matter what their dietary and lifestyle choices. Now I will get off my soapbox. I have nothing else to say. Angela :)

Fred - will you be roasting your cats as well? Hear they are very good with a Chianti! Bon Sante Allie!

Probably not! But that is besides the point - people should realise what goes on in these places. If they had to kill their own food, they might not be so keen! Allie :-)

If it were all nice and lovely conditions in the 'passing away' houses would you eat meat then?

You lot make me laugh! You probably get all sentimental about a likkle kitty or lambs bouncing in a field, but give no thought to farming conditions and the cruelty invoved in a slaughter house! HOWEVER I don't want to fall out with anyone -so CHEERS! Allie x

In that case I declare myself a little bit meat eating. Roast chicken or turkey with roasted parsnips a favourite. I also cook an excellent roast duck with orange sauce (which is heavily laced with sherry and red wine). That's my new year's day offering every year. Angela

We can't let the vegies take over, even if parsnips are members of the group :-)
