I thought IQ tests had nothing to do with inteligence, rather than you ability to solve problems.

Ah Thanks Gwyne and Zoe thought I was just being thick in my old age LOL. Not that I am that old but do know I am slowing down presumed it was because I am not working now so not excerising the brain. Germaine x

Hi Germaine, The mensa one is likely to be more accurate being more complex than the online one. The tickle one looks to be US based as well so there will be a cultural difference. Gwynne

Germaine no - but your response time lengthens - proper IQ tests such as the ones menas use have adjusted scoring for age so the youner and the older have their marks adjusted to take speed into account. SO, me and my Mum could take the same test and get the same score but as I'm in what's conisdered the most adept age group I would have no points added to my score whereas Mum's would be adjusted upwards. I should point out at this stage that it is VERY unlikely my mum would get the same score as me in an IQ test as she reckons she goes blind when logic puzzles are placed within 10 foot of her face Zoe

Don't know if this helps but it's from my education psychological assessment report (that was done as part of my dyslexis diagnosis so don't worry) IQ below 69 = very low IQ 70 - 79 = Low IQ 80 - 89 = Below average 90 - 109 = Average 110 - 119 = High Average 120 - 129 = High 130 and abover = Very High Depending on which IQ test you do - partically online - you may get different results. My IQ was assessed when I was 17 as part of the dyslexia assessment was 109, the BBC IQ tests give my a result of 116 (on average) and other sites have given me results of between 133 and 159 (a bit far fetched I think!).

CB percentage is a quantity expressed in terms of 100 and percentile is a level qualified by 100 divisions I think - I've not had to explain this for ages Zoe

Zoe, What does 'percentile' mean? Is what Americans call 'percentage'? CB >*|*< (High IQ but still ignorant!)

Zoe

Zoe Report 14 Dec 2005 08:15

IQ tests results are done on percentiles. Most are centred around a result of 100 being the average (also known as the 50th percentile i.e. the middle). So anyone with a result over 100 is above average and anyone under is below average. The all results are split into what level in the poulation your intelligencs is 65 or below is the lowest or 1st percentile going all the way up to 135 and above which is the 99th percentile. Your percentile rating is how many of the population you are cleverer than. So anyone with a result of 135 and abvove is brighter than 99% of the population. The others run like this: 65 brighter than 1% 70 = 2% 75 = 5 % 80 = 9% 85 = 16% 90 = 25% 95 = 37% 100 = 50% 105 = 63 % 110 = 75 % 115 = 84% 120 = 91 % 125 = 95 % 130 = 98 % 135 = 99 %

Bec Report 14 Dec 2005 01:20

Karen - IQ tests (in my opinion) are geared towards those who do better on 'tests'... I'm not an academic but did ok in my studies (both GCSE and A-level) but I think I'm more intelligent than my results could convey... When people were thrown out of Germany (and other countries - my History is rubbish!) during the war they were given IQ tests when some of them arrived in America... One of the tests involved a picture of a tennis court without the net... and they were asked what was missing. Some (a lot) of these people had never experienced tennis... therefore they failed. Were/Are they stupid? xx
