I've always liked it Lucia. when we were kids we used to make 'Sugarolly Water' from it. We'd get liquorice sticks, put them in a bottle of water and keep them until the liquorice was disolved. Usually we kept them under the bed and brought them out several times a day for a good shake...we even had a wee rhyme that you said when you did it. 'Sugarolly water, black as the lum, the more you shake it, the blacker it'll come' Don't know if I fancy it too much now though! lol Wonder if kids in Glasgow still do that? Christine |

Oh yes I love Liquorice When we were kids in Yorkshire we called it Spanish I remember ha'penny Spanish and a bag of Kali (sharp tasting Sherbert) oh my mouth is watering at the thought. The Spanish was really strong not the sweet stuff you get today. I also loved Liquorice root would chew it for hours. My hubby comes from Pontefract and according to him Pontefract was the only place where Liquorice was grown at one time. that's why all the factories are close to Pontefract I suppose. Can someone email me some GOOD liquorice please lol. We pay the earth for Basset's over here, really expensive Regards Jackie |

I love it. Anne I was wondering when someone would mention Pontefract Cakes. When I was in the pub in Plymouth I used to buy them wholesale & keep them under the bar for a couple of special customers & myself. Mmmmmm must get some next time I'm out Vivienne |

Love it. I lived at Pontefract for 3 years in the 70s, when the sweet factories were still working there. There was a lovely smell of licorice over the town and we could get sweeets from the factory. Lovely I like the licorice from the health shops, but more expensive, but nice, soft and juicy. Anne |

My mum has alway ate liquorice and had a craving for it when she was pregnant with me, that is why I have black hair and olive skin and even now at the age of 81 mum is still eating it. Very good for the bowels though. When she was pregnant with my brother is was Oysters and he was born with mousey coloured hair and fair skin, and mum is still eating oysters! Yvonne |

Hi liquorice is very good for you; I have some daily, good for indigestion and mouth ulcers, I have not had a mouth ulcer in five years and I am sure it is due to the amount of the stuff I eat, love it kc |

I Love it. Love the liquorice sticks. I used to like Sports Mixture but they have changed the black ones from Liquorice to Blackcurrant. Don't like them now. Happy New year Everyone nat |

Does the (still obtainable ) liquorice root still count? I like that a bit at a time. Also like the more conventional liquorice pipe. Happydays |
