Susan I worked in that area for 6 years and it never ceased to amaze me that people would consult someone about their health with less preparation than they would do before buying a washing machine. Most people when buying something for the home think about what brand offers value for money, which shop has the best price and the best customer service, who gives the best guarantee, who has the best reputation etc etc - but the same people will pick a therapist out of yellow pages and take them on face value. Its bizarre. Buying the wrong washing machine costs you money, but accepting treatment from someone not qualified to give it can cost you as much as your life. Thats not to say all these alternative treatments are pointless- far from it, some of them can be very effective. You just have to take care in choosing and be realistic about what you expect. You need to be extra careful about treatments affecting your mind (hypnosis, counselling etc), and avoid any treatments that make wild claims about what they can do. Angela

Susan Personal recommendation from someone who's been treated is always a good thing. I'd still check whether the therapist belongs to any kind of regulatory scheme, has insurance, what his/her qualifications are etc though. A competent and safe therapist will never mind people asking about this kind of thing. Angela

One of my mates went to see one of these hypnotic entertainment threads. Poor bloke, really embarrassing. Once he was under the bloke told him that every time he was offered a drink, he'd be desperate for a wee, and have to dash to the loo. Was really funny apparrently.

I havent tried it before. Going on thursday-trying a new one called nlp hypnosis (neuro linguistic programming), where they substitute your habit for something else. I,m making that sound a bit basic, bit more to it than that. Only time will tell! christine x

I booked one for a charity night for the pink fund in November, it was really good but it didn't work on everyone, the majority went under but there were a few that didn't. I'm having another one on the 28th of this month if anyone wants to give it a go, and raise money for a good cause at the same time. Clare (not advertising just commenting lol)
