my 'local' library - 5 miles away - doesn't seem to do novels any more. Its great for info leaflets & all sorts of directories, and 'puters for when yours goes wonky (Not v PC of me but its in a fairly deprived area where lots of people dont have their own) I'm currently reading David Dippie Dixon's History of Coquetdale - written 1903 - about the area a lot of my rellies are from - and I did order it from the library, albeit the central one in Sheffield 15 miles away (near hubby's office). I'm also reading Bleak House, though have to admit so far I'm finding it hard going, loved the TV program. |

hi all I am sorting out my late aunt's book collection (she was a librarian too Darth) and having a marvellous time dipping in to a weird mixture. Also reading the usual fantasy for fun, the odd crime/ psycho and various British history books. xx Jen |

Perhaps I should be called baboon? I'm female BTW in case you feel you need to know! Maz - I only wish that were true! My parents are both librarians and my Mum works at a public library. They're much like my section in local government, considered a luxury! Health, Education and lower council taxes all come first really. There will always be money for more and more planners, but libraries and conservation tend to get the short straw. Wouldn't matter how many people use them at the end of the day theres only so much money to go round. |

Predator by Patricia Cornwall. Her latest becoming a traditional Christmas gift from my daughter. Some I like, some I don't. She sometimes dwells too much on the scientific side of post mortem and forensics which doesn't always make for a smooth read. This one looks promising though, not got very far yet. I use the library too, not just for books but story tapes as well: great for doing ironing to!...and Maz - DV sounds worse than Darth, sounds like she/he's poorly! LOL Mags x |

DV (can't call you Darth - it doesn't feel right! don't even know if you are male or female!) you're not being cheap by getting books from the library! If more people used them they would get more funds and be able to have more books and stuff. I can't afford to buy all the books I want to read - I've always used the library and encourage my kids to as well. Anyway, more money to spend on Family History! Maz. XX |

I'd thoroughly recommend the last book I read, especially if you have a sense of humour, an interest in wildlife and an interest in Africa and it's rich varied cultures. It's called 'A Primate's Memoir: Love, Death, and Baboons in East Africa' by Robert Sapolsky. Surprsingly only half of it seems to be about the baboons he's studying. It made me laugh, it made me cry. I really can't recommend it enough! |
